Sir Zogryth CSO OP was a Massassi warrior and commander in the Ta'asyak Za`vek. Originally a servant of Tak Sakaros, he became a pupil of the Massassi general Kartok and later rose to prominence in the Golden Empire as the captain of the Sith Star and the first Consul of Kavez Massass.
Biography[]
Born aboard a Sith warship at the Denarii Nova, where the Ta'asyak Za`vek waited diligently for the return of its master, Zogryth was raised in the normal fashion of Sakaros's Massassi warriors, training constantly in combat and taught to view the Sith as gods. He was not one of the Massassi bred for higher intelligence to function as a group leader, and as such was expected to serve as a front-line crew member on a ship of as a ground warrior. However, while rotated to the Sith Star, he drew the attention of Kartok, caretaker and acting commander of the fleet.
Since he exhibited greater intelligence and leadership potential than other "unmodified" Massassi, Zogryth was allowed to serve on the bridge of the command ship, and was tutored by Kartok in strategy and tactics. When the Massassi commander died, Zogryth assumed control of the Sith Star. Some of his elders were incensed at this, but a brief power struggle saw forces loyal to Zogryth killing off those of his enemies, the fleet accepted Zogryth as its new caretaker.
Determined to impress his Sith master when Tak finally returned, Zogryth put his brethren through war games on nearby Yavin 4 and maneuvers with the Sith ships around the Nova, though he was careful not to expend actual blaster power, with no reliable source of replacement. By 87 ABY, the fleet was in as good of shape as could be expected after decades of stasis, though better experienced on the ground than in its ships. In that year, Rin Sakaros and the Vengeance returned, bringing Tariun Sakaros, Keltrayu, and a band of Nelvaanian warriors along. The Sith witch summoned her father to the Nova, setting the stage for the power struggle that followed.
When Tak was defeated, Zogryth submitted himself to Rin's leadership; though raised to view all the Sith as gods and the natural masters of the Massassi, he was wise enough to follow the one who would win, not the one who had been the leader previously. Tariun and Keltrayu assumed overall command of the fleet, but kept Zogryth as captain of the Sith Star, and thus the most important subordinate officer of what was to become the Royal Navy of the Golden Empire. Zogryth led Massassi contingents on the ground during the first thirteen years of the Empire, both as demonstrations of force and in actual battle, such as at Quadia and Feldirjo.
As new recruits flowed into the Royal Army, Zogryth took a personal interest in assigning talented Massassi to train the new recruits. After Iscandar and Tershin joined the Empire in 94 ABY and brought their spacefaring expertise to the Royal Navy, Zogryth, Tariun, and Keltrayu presided over the scaling back of Massassi double-duty on both ground and space combat. By 98 ABY, the Massassi had become less vital to space combat, and Zogryth helped oversee the formation of the first twelve Massassi Cohorts.
Zogryth remained captain of the Sith Star throughout the Great Liberation, and commanded the space element of the Battle of Tizgo V, as all the Force users were committed to the ground battle. As such, he was the first Massassi to serve as a Legate, and at the conclusion of the war was made a Commander of the Sovereign's Order. Following the war, he was eventually relieved of command to oversee the training of the Massassi Cohorts. He personally took the field at the Battle of Harth Gool, and was present for the brutal executions of captured Red Eclipse personnel.
In 116 ABY, Rin gave her Massassi the planet of Kavez Massass as a gift in return for their loyalty and service. She appointed Zogryth as the first Consul of the planet and ordered that no one but a Massassi could ever serve as Consul of the world. Deeply honored, Zogryth consulted with the elders of his people on how to repay their patroness. The group eventually decided to build the Temple of Rin, and Zogryth personally presented the edifice to Rin in 121 ABY.
Zogryth continued to serve as Consul and preside over the expansion and training regimen of the Massassi Cohorts for the remainder of his life. For his services to the Massassi and his assistance to the Massassi Cohorts, Rin made him a member of the Order of the Phoenix. He died some time before the Conquest of the Chiss Ascendancy in 137 ABY.
Skills and abilities[]
Like all the Massassi under the command of Tak Sakaros and later his daughter, Rin, Zogryth was trained in Var Shek and the use of the Massassi lanvarok, along with various heavy blaster weapons. He was taught both ground and space battle tactics by Kartok, which were later refined by Tariun Sakaros and experience in the early campaigns of the Golden Empire.
Appearance and personality[]
Like all the Massassi bred by Khrado Ragnos, Zogryth was of the enormous, brutish subspecies first crafted by Naga Sadow. He stood 2.06 meters (6'9"), and was heavily muscled, with spines on his head, upper back, and arms. His skin was a bright crimson, and he had glowing yellow eyes.
Zogryth possessed above-average intelligence for a Massassi, nearing the level of a Human. As such, he was a natural choice for command over his brethren, and was a tough but fair commander. He demanded the best of his troops and punished failure mercilessly, but he also looked out for the interests of his men. He was intelligent enough to be able to strategize, and could deploy his troops tactically instead of the mass wave attacks for which they were famous.
Zogryth was loyal to the Sith instinctively, but could make the choice between two Sith Lords when they conflicted. His force of personality and the respect he engendered among his soldiers led them to follow his commands obediently. He in turn was a devout servant of Rin Sakaros, considering her to be a goddess. He strove to please his mistress, and was willing to sacrifice his fellow Massassi or himself to further her cause.
