"Try, Jedi.
—Anakin Skywalker and Zanari Tano
Zanari Tano, known to the Separatists as "the Blade," was a Force-sensitive Togruta female and a Dark Acolyte who fought on the side of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. Born in 36 BBY on the jungle world of Shili to unknown parents, Zanari was the twin sister of Ahsoka Tano, who was also Force-sensitive. In 33 BBY, when the twins were three years old, Zanari was taken by former Jedi and Sith Lord Count Dooku, while Ahsoka was discovered by Jedi Master Plo Koon and raised at the Jedi Temple. Under Dooku's guidance, Zanari became a powerful warrior, mastering the dangerous techniques of the Sith and the dark side.
During the pan-galactic Clone Wars, Zanari fought against the Republic, often crossing paths with the Jedi Order and unknowingly her own sister. Her proficiency with the lightsaber and command of the Dark Side made her a significant threat on the battlefield. Despite her allegiance to the Separatists, she experienced moments of doubt and internal conflict regarding her chosen path.
As the war progressed, Zanari encountered Ahsoka, leading to intense confrontations between the sisters. The emotional and physical battles forced Zanari to recognize their shared bond, despite their divergent paths in the Force. These encounters ultimately led Zanari to question her loyalty to Count Dooku and the darkness she had embraced and in the last days of the war, she left the Separatists behind, though her ultimate fate and whether she fully redeemed herself was left a mystery to the galaxy, including her sister Ahsoka.
Biography[]
A lost child[]
I know I had a sister back on Shili. I remember her...her smile, her blue eyes...and when Master Plo found me, she just...disappeared. I wish I could see her again.
—Ahsoka Tano as a youngling, on Zanari

In 33 BBY, a three-year-old-Zanari was taken from her homeworld by Count Dooku, a former Jedi Master, while her sister was discovered by Jedi Master Plo Koon. Raised at the Jedi Temple without her sister, although Plo searched for her, Ahsoka greatly missed Zanari and wondered if she was still alive.
Dooku's Disciple[]
He trained me as his own.
—Zanari Tano
Indeed, Zanari had survived and was left in the care of custodial droids on Coruscant until she was nine years old. Then she was trained by Dooku, who inured her to pain and encouraged her to unlock the anger inside. Eventually, Zanari became a full Dark Acolyte. Her first mission was to aid the Geonosians on Geonosis in creating the Separatist Droid Army alongside Dooku, but Dooku ordered her to return to Coruscant after the Galactic Republic attacked the planet while he engaged the Jedi.
Clone Wars[]
Early missions[]
After the Battle of Geonosis, Zanari was assigned by her master to aid the Separatists in combating the Republic during the conflict which became known as the Clone Wars. Zanari encountered multiple Jedi throughout the war, including Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, who saw her as a formidable adversary.
Encounter with Ahsoka[]
Zanari?"
"Ahsoka? Is it really you?
—Ahsoka and Zanari upon seeing each other again for the first time
At some point during the war, Zanari encountered her twin sister Ahsoka, now a Jedi Padawan, much to the shock of both of them. Ahsoka initially thought Zanari was a clone, but realized she was her long-lost sister and tried to bring her back to the light side. Unfortunately, even this was not enough to enable Zanari to reject the darkness she had chosen for herself. Despite her unwillingness to leave the Separatists, Zanari spared Ahsoka and escaped, shaken, while Ahsoka did not tell the Jedi about her sister's whereabouts in order to keep Zanari safe from any punishment.
Disillusionment and escape[]
But as the war dragged on, Zanari began to question the motives behind the conflict. The endless violence and manipulation by the Sith weighed heavily on her conscience. The realization that she was fighting against everything her sister stood for gnawed at her. Stories of the Jedi's heroism and their commitment to peace began to resonate with her, sparking a desire to atone for her actions. Near the end of the Clone Wars, Zanari made the fateful decision to leave the Separatists. She meticulously planned her departure, ensuring that her tracks were erased. Under the cover of darkness, she slipped away from the Separatist stronghold and set a course for an unknown planet though her ultimate fate was still a mystery.
