Strength gives the illusion of power, power gives the illusion of victory, victory gives the illusion of peace, and peace is merely an illusion, one not easily seen through.
—Xhar-Lau
Xhar-Lau was a Sorrusian crime lord. He and his thugs hijacked passing ships and would sell stolen goods on the market, they made illegal guns, cultivated spice, and would extort, kidnap, and gamble to gain profits. Many times rogue jedi would try to foil his work, for example Thrayk Maffa sent his apprentice Friko Deya to arrest him (on his own accord). Despite all his crimes, he was never officially wanted for anything, because his exsistense was disputed, as nobody ever saw him face-to-face (excluding his thugs) and got away to tell authority. It is said that he had a very specialized lightsaber created by a genius technician that used a synthesized crystal, which made the blade short and orange with a custom ring hilt, although no knowledge of the force. Xhar-Lau had several different species serving him as thugs including Gektl, Twi'lek, Falleen, Cerean, Hiitian, Klatooine, and Bothans. His admiral was a Bothan.
Early Life and Training[]
He was born on Sorrus both his parents were famous politicians, but at the age of 15 a bounty hunter named Kraak Ba'ul killed both of them. After seeing both of his parents killed and the power of Kraak Ba'ul he swore allegiance to him, knowing he would meet the same fate if he did not. Kraak taught Xhar-Lau everything he knew and Xhar-Lau picked it all up very quickly and gained knowledge of even more things. He learned at the hand of Kraak Ba'ul for seven years and during so surpassed his own masters skills. Kraak Ba'ul, fearing he would be overthrown, ordered his men to kill Xhar-Lau. Xhar-Lau killed many of them very easily, the rest swore loyalty to him. Xhar-Lau killed Kraak Ba'ul as an act of vengeance and hatred and took command of his ship, the Bronze Vulture. It was not until age 25 when he discovered R9-51 and had a colony built upon it. It took more than four years to build a colony on R9-51 and took more than 7,000 human slaves. After the colony was built Xhar-Lau had the slaves tongues cut out as well as their eyes, and fingers so that they could not report him.
Appearance[]
Xhar-Lau had a tattoo on his left cheek, nobody knew what it meant but some said it was a character in some ancient language lost long, long ago. Xhar-Lau's cloak was long, flowing and gray, it had a collar protecting the back of the neck and a pocket on the breast for his lightsaber hilt. On the back of the cloak it said LAU in the Aurebesh script, and was decorated at the bottom with a intricate blue wave pattern. It could be buttoned or left open, he also wore sharp, shiny, black shoes. Although he was not a jedi his finesse with a lightsaber was remarkable. While training to use his lightsaber he lost four of his fingers, and after having robotic ones attached and seeing their usefulness, he got the other six removed as well. This is why he is seen in most pictures with his hands behind his back. Xhar-Lau had a large earring in each ear, he had very large lips, and a typical Sorrusian complexion, as well as a trimmed beard under his bottom lip.
The Bronze Vulture[]
Whenever he would travel in the Bronze Vulture he always had three people with him on the command deck. A dark jedi bodyguard, a custom-made droid designed to destroy his enemies, and the admiral Arck La. The Bronze Vulture was designed so that if the proper launch codes were put in, along with a verified fingerprint scan, the command deck would dislocate from the rest of the ship, like an escape pod. In which case the droid would leave the command deck and go into the main part of the ship and self-destruct eleminating any enemies still on board.
Personality[]
If only I could clone myself, then I wouldn't have to deal with such incompetent fools.
—Xhar-Lau
Xhar-Lau was known among his thugs as a selfish liar that was untrustworthy and credit-hungry, and that is precisely why they served him. Xhar-Lau never participated in the "dirty" work, he considered such things to be beneath him. His followers were loyal to him, knowing that if he even suspected a hint of betrayal they would all be slaughtered. He spoke many different languages including Galactic Basic, Twi'leki, Cerean, Falleen, and Huttese, in order to communicate with his thugs. He was wealthy beyond imagination, but being on R9-51 there was not alot of things he could spend it on. Xhar-Lau although strong and experienced had a rather unintelligent guard.
R9-51[]
R9-51 is an asteroid in the Outer Rim in which the closest planet to it is Ryoone, where Xhar-Lau got his molten material to make the guns. He also cultivated spice on Ryoone.
Friko Deya[]
Friko Deya was found on Ryoone, by one of Xhar-Lau's thugs while harvesting spice, he claimed to be a former jedi that had been exiled for killing another member of the order, and that he took up refuge on Ryoone. Xhar-Lau trusted the boy, and trained him to be his apprentice, for more than three years Friko remained loyal to Xhar-Lau. Until Xhar-Lau found a hologram in Friko's quarters of Friko's jedi master giving orders to arrest Xhar-Lau. When he found this, he confronted his apprentice, who then admitted he was a jedi shadow sent to arrest Xhar-Lau by his jedi master Thrayk Maffa. Upon hearing the confession, Xhar-Lau defeated Friko Deya in battle and forced him to send back a transmission stating that he had Xhar-Lau under arrest, but he got away and has no idea where he is is at the moment. After the transmission was sent Friko Deya was killed, R9-51 was destroyed, and Xhar-Lau moved his headquarters to the Kaelta System.
R9-52[]
Now Thrayk Maffa will be looking for me, R9-51 will have to be moved.
—Xhar-Lau
R9-52 was the new headquarters of Xhar-Lau after the betrayal of his former apprentice Friko Deya. It was a dwarf planet in the Kaelta System, about three times as big as R9-51. It was shielded by an enormous cloaking device, however this device only protected the planet from sensors and radars, not the naked eye, the planet was too small to be seen from Toola. During the transition from R9-51 to R9-52 Xhar-Lau tripled his thug bodyguard, these men and women were more intelligent and younger than the original guard. Xhar-Lau got all of his thugs very specialized blasters that used a special type of focusing lens that would amplify the beams power and make the beam more accurate. These blasters also used a poison liquid that, once a cartridge of it was put in the blaster, the blaster would somehow vaporize the liquid and mix it with the beam, they were called XL52's. He also got a deflector shield generator installed on the Bronze Vulture.
Thrayk Maffa[]
Thrayk Maffa upon realizing that his apprentice had been killed and Xhar-Lau was still about stronger than ever, started sending bounty hunters and probing droids to find him, making it his personal mission to find and destroy Xhar-Lau. When Xhar-Lau learned his new enemy was on the lookout for him, he got 18 custom droids made to hunt down and destroy any friends and relatives of Thrayk's. It took three months for the droids to seek out and eliminate his mother, father, sister, and good friend Ghark Iut. Whenever the transmission was received stating this had been done, Xhar-Lau knew it was only a matter of time before Thrayk began a personal search for him. It only took two months before Thrayk tracked down Xhar-Lau on R9-52, Xhar-Lau ordered his guard to imprison Thrayk Maffa for questioning. After the interrogation Xhar-Lau learned that the jedi order knew nothing of him, and that Friko Deya was sent on a secret mission by his master. Xhar-Lau then proceeded to overload the terminal controlling Thrayk's cage, causing thousands of volts with extremely high current to kill him as punishment for his actions.
The Anonymity Information Assosiation[]
Seeking to keep his anonymity, and unknowing whether or not to beleive Thrayk Maffa, Xhar-Lau summoned a team of 32 highly trained spies, investigators, and interrogators to figure out if he was a known threat among the jedi order. He provided these men and women with their own ship and supplies, including top-of-the-line weaponry and armor. They had personal servants and were paid 20,000 credits each, plus another 10,000 for any information they gained. None of them reported any information that he was a known enemy, to the jedi order he was non-exsistent. The AIA was then shut down by Xhar-Lau, he had all of them eliminated.
Xhar-Lau's Holocron[]
At the age of 37, Xhar-Lau realized that he was getting old and decided to create a data holocron that would preserve his memory, even after death. It was crafted completely of Cortosis, and Phrik, making it nearly indestructible. It would contain everything that happened on R9-51, and R9-52, the names of his thugs, the location of the Bronze Vulture, every bussiness deal he made, the location of R9-51, the former location of R9-52, and the blueprints of the XL52. This device would have such increminating evidence on it, that whoever was in possesion of it would be extremely rich. Xhar-Lau carried it with him at all times and updated it everyday.
Xhar-Lau's Debut[]
Xhar-Lau had been in space dealing with the same incompetent lackeys for forty years. By this time he wanted to see civilization with his own eyes. He paid off many corrupt govenment officials on the Ithaqua station on Toola to allow his presence to be unknown. He dressed like a commoner, and took none of his thugs with him, he also left his holocron in the hands of his admiral Boh-Chi. He lived on the Ithaqua station for a whole year before returning to R9-52. When he did return he saw that things on R9-52 were not well without him, he left admiral Boh-Chi in charge and upon his arrival, learned a rebellion had started among his thugs, the admiral was killed. He got droids to kill all of his thugs, then the droids took their place. The only living things still left on the R9-52 were him, his new commander Vrah Jiy, and his new apprentice a female Ayrou named Lah Krija. The droids worked much harder than his former thugs, and were more intelligent in many ways. Xhar-Lau got a disruptor field put on the hangar of R9-52, sensing that soon R9-52 would be infiltrated.
Infiltration[]
As he predicted it was five years before he was infiltrated by an elite squadrant of the New Republic. They came in two separate ships with about one hundred men in each one. They wiped out 3/4 of his droids, before Xhar-lau and Lah Krija joined the battle and turned the tides. They killed the rest of the Republic's infiltration squad soldiers, but Xhar-Lau was badly wounded. The small remiander of the droids were put on personal guard duty, the rest of R9-52's production was halted, because of the lack of workers.
Preservation[]
After Xhar-Lau's critical wound he started taking daily injections of a low dosage, very powerful healing drug, in order to preserve his life. Without the drug being administered everyday he would die, it was very expensive, but he had more than enough credits to buy copious amounts of it. This drug kept him alive for an unnatural amount of time, and slowly twisted his mind, and appearance, until he was a useless old man.
The Second Infilration[]
When Xhar-Lau heard of the New Republic planning to send in another team of soldiers to end him once and for all, he came up with a plan. He turned off the disruptor field, left on the Bronze Vulure, planted 14 thermal detonators on the engine, put the holocron in the command deck, sent it off, and waited for them to board it. When they did board the Bronze Vulture, Xhar-Lau had a brief conversation with the squadrant leader. He talked to him about how he regretted everything that he had done and that if he could go back to the day that he was fifteen years old when Kraak Ba'ul killed his parents, he would have met the same fate as them, rather than give into fear like he did. He said that his legacy would live on through the holocron and then he set off the thermal detonators. The explosion destroyed the entire vessel and everyone on it, including Xhar-Lau.
His Legacy[]
Xhar-Lau lived to be one hundred and five years old. The command deck of the Bronze Vulture with the holocron on board landed on
