XL troopers (accel troopers or accelerate troopers), were clone troopers equipped with and trained in the use of jetpacks; they were one of the most deadly specializations of clone troopers during the Clone Wars. Little was known of their existence because most did not live to tell about them.

They utilized and modified their limited flight jetpacks to rapidly cover great distances and gain aerial advantage over their enemies. The agility of the XL trooper made them quite difficult to hit both on the ground and in the air.
XL troopers were also trained in hand-to-hand combat, and were equipped with wrist vibro-blades. The art of Teräs Käsi was one of the unit's basic abilities along with their enhanced speed, though it is unknown what facilitated such unusually quick movements. They were so well trained that they were able to avoid lightsaber attacks quite easily if confronted.
They also carried specialized DC-15x sniper rifles, DC-15 rifle, DC-15 blaster carbines, autoturrets, thermal detonators, and custom designed R-1 recon droids while in the field.

The main goal for the XL trooper project was to create the next evolution of the jet trooper. The XL troopers were first used against the CIS during the Battle of Reach.
