The Workers First Party was a left-wing political party founded by Ilyria Martix five years prior to the outbreak of the Mandalorian Wars. Its policies were centred around making life more bearable for the working class of the galaxy. It gained a huge amount of support from the working and middle class of the galaxy but almost none from the upper class. The party became the Republic's official government when Ilyria Martix became Supreme Chancellor. After his assassination during the Jedi Civil War, the party disbanded.

History[]

The party was founded by Ilyria Martix in 3,981 BBY and advocated policies that made the party very popular with the working class. Party membership grew very rapidly and soon, the party had well over five thousand members, mostly from Kuat. When Martix decided to stand for the Senatorial elections as a candidate from Kuat, the party gaiend yet more membership and by the end of the five month long campaign, the party's membership had grown to number around one million.

The peak of the Workers First Party came when Martix was elected Supreme Chancellor, making the party the governing party of the Galactic Republic. The party, at this time, managed to unite the Republic in the face of first the Mandalorian threat and then the threat posed by the Sith. However, during the latter conflict, a group of senators who believed Martix had become a dictator assassinated the Chancellor. Martix's death caused a power vaccum which no member of the party could fill and so the party disbanded within a year of Martix's death.

Ideology[]

The Workers First Party followed an ideology rigorously based in Socialism, and supported the working class more than any other group of people. The party did not believe in the rule of the working class over the middle and upper classes, but it did believe in the working class being the most influential of the three, as party ideology dictated that the workers were the majority and the foundations of life in the Republic, without whom there would be anarchy.
