The Witches of Dathomir was a group made up of Force-using women on Dathomir. They controlled the government and society of the planet, though they were not tyrannical and the settlers of Dathomir appreciated all they had done for the planet. The Witches of Dathomir had an unspoken understanding with the Order of the Sith Lords when the Sith arrived on Dathomir that the two groups would leave the other one alone.
History[]
Centuries before the formation of the Order of the Sith Lords, a rogue Jedi Knight named Allya was banished to Dathomir by the Jedi Council. She took many followers with her and forged a friendship with the few settlers that were on the planet. She taught many of them the ways of the Force, and later she taught the ways of the Force to her own children. Centuries later, Allya was credited for transforming the settler society into one led by women who held their men as slaves. This society was dominated by Force-using women that became known as the Witches of Dathomir, and there were many occasions when their legends were used to scare children around a fire.[1]
Darth Plagueis encountered the Witches of Dathomir while he was the Dark Lord of the Sith, but there was an unspoken understanding between the Witches and the Sith where they agreed to leave each other alone and in peace. It worked out for many years before Plaugeis, so the Dark Lord had continued that. He later recounted that although he would have enjoyed having numerous seductive women under his command, the doctrine of Darth Bane clearly forbid more than two Sith. Even so, the Witches prided themselves on their autonomy, so they would not have accepted any offer by any Dark Lord of the Sith to become part of the Order of the Sith Lords.[1]
