The War Judge was the supreme commander of the Exoi Kritocracy's military, answering directly to and appointed by the Governing Judges. While nearly all senior government positions in the Kritocracy required the office-holder to have decades of judicial experience, the War Judge position also required actual service in the military rather than only extensive knowledge of military law. Candidates could meet these requirements in any order, and some War Judges had gone back and forth between the roles.
Zhifter Honjeen was a War Judge during the Golden Age of the Kritocracy who masterminded the creation of the Toriafas Defense Grid. The War Judge during the Kritocracy-Ascendancy War, who had taken the field in hopes of reversing the Kritocracy's fortunes, was killed at the Battle of Sandrezhdredan. Mantyn Offastup was the last War Judge; he resigned his office when the Kritocracy dissolved and its worlds joined the Golden Empire.
