Volcanesis Magna was the ancient capital of the Morsian Empire on the planet Mors as well as a major city. It was a large, extinct volcano on the surface of the planet which was colonised by the Morsian people, forming the birthplace of the Morsian Kingdom.
Initially settled by the Kalla'tarucc Tribe during their initial amalgamation, Volcanesis Magna was settled in an extinct volcano, something perfect for natural defenses and very difficult to siege and take in a war.
History[]
Founding[]
Volcanesis Magna was unique in its roots from the fact that it was not settled like a normal village or town. It was not built from a group of huts, but rather from the extinct form of a natural volcano. Whilst the tribe was still forming, they discovered the looming form of the volcano, and after partially creating a path up the side to scale it to the peak, they decided that the volcano would make for a good settlement. As such, a more permanent pathway up the side was formed, and a simple gatehouse and wall built on the volcano rim for some extra defence.
The volcano was chosen due to its natural size and shape, making it very difficult for a sieging army to attack and capture. The height gave defenders a vantage point to see any sort of approaching army, and the steep sides would quickly tire out an attacking force as well as allow defender to fire back down on them during their ascent. It was also very imposing on the surrounding landscape, and so it was fitting for a capital city, the tribe thought.
Early existence[]
The pathway up to the rim of the volcano was long, at the time, due to the distance up to it, however once over the rim the volcano could sustain many thousands of people just on the surface and sides, with a branching network of paths and bridges built within the now extinct vent and throat of the volcano. Due to where it had erupted prior in its life, and from its final eruption that caused it to go extinct, the rim and vent were wide and a solid base had been formed at roughly sea level down the throat the volcano, making for a large circular size to build on the floor.
A cluster of homes were quickly built on the volcano floor, and a royal palace founded for the king. Later, a small senate building would be built for the fledgling Morsian Senate to be housed.
