Today, this Star Destroyer lives up to its name. We are not surrendering, Captain. We are getting our revenge.
—Ralia Arryn, 7 ABY
The Vindicator was an Imperial-II-class Star Destroyer commandeered by Imperial Security Bureau officer Ralia Arryn after the Battle of Yavin and until her entry into the ranks of the First Order in 27 ABY.
Details[]
History[]
Arryn's command[]
The Vindicator was given to Colonel Arryn in 1 ABY after her successful completion of an assignment and was to be stationed in the Quotev sector of the Outer Rim, where she was tasked with quelling a rebellion. It remained in her command all the way until 27 ABY, when it was dismantled after she had joined the First Order.
Post-Endor[]
After the battle of Endor, the Vindicator was ordered to regroup with other parts of the Imperial Navy. It stayed out of events such as the battle of Jakku or the Coruscant civil war as Arryn was deemed too valuable to risk her life there. Arryn remained in command, along with her trusted advisor Captain Staven Naxus, and was promoted to Inspector General of the ISB. The Vindicator remained with the Queluhan Nebula Imperial remnant under the command of Grand Moff Randd.
The Imperial Dagger[]
In 7 ABY, the Vindicator travelled to an Imperial outpost in the nebula to retrieve supplies but came under attack and was forced to retreat, leaving behind a small trooper unit and agent Carla Starfire, who was captured and promptly executed for war crimes she didn't commit. After finding out about her death, Arryn ordered the Vindicator to locate the nearest New Republic ship and perform a surprise attack, destroying the ship and jumping back to hyperspace. For the next three years, the Destroyer would revert to realspace, destroy ships or board them for supplies, and leave just as quickly, earning the name "Imperial Dagger" thanks to both its shape and the swiftness of its attacks. For five years the Vindicator became the flagship of Arryn's feared Imperial Remnant along with some smaller vessels that it protected from enemy attacks.
Stranding[]
After a run-in with a heavily armed Republic fleet, the Vindicator was damaged and retreated to the Unknown Regions where it spent years orbiting unknown planets while the crew was in search of supplies and fuel. A large part of the personnel aboard had been lost by that time. With only enough fuel remaining for one last jump, the Vindicator lay low searching for Imperial signals as the crew were aware of Imperial presence somewhere in the area. The ship had enough consumables for the crew to last for several years.
Finally, in 27 ABY, their distress call was answered by the First Order, and the Vindicator made its last hyperspace jump to the gathering point of the newly assembled fleet.
The First Order[]
The Vindicator was dismantled for parts after Arryn had joined the First Order. It was replaced by the Ultimatum (Resurgent-class), which became the flagship of the First Order Security Bureau. Arryn and Naxus watched the ISD being towed away as they shared their memories of the twenty-six years spent aboard.
