Rise of the Empire era

The Empire could use another Emperor, I think.
—Narath

Vexler Narath was a native of Coruscant who served as a commander in the Imperial Navy.

Biography[]

A graduate of the Imperial City Naval College, Narath was known by his instructors as being a capable tactician. During his time at the college, he became a rival of Martio Pavan, a fellow cadet who was also a skilled tactician. The two graduated as lieutenants and served aboard the Victory I-class Star Destroyer Contagion in 11 BBY. However, Narath came to despise Emperor Palpatine for his poor treatment of Imperial military personnel. The commander of the Contagion, Captain Osvald Ralgol, thought the same way, and as did much of his crew, which was why they began a conspiracy to overthrow the Emperor. Around that time, Narath was promoted to commander by Ralgol.

However, their initial plan was foiled by Pavan, who reported their activities to Imperial Intelligence, which warned the Emperor. So instead they chose to ram the Contagion into the Imperial Palace in a kamikaze attack to kill Palpatine. However, only Narath, Ralgol, and a few other officers were aware of the new plan. Everyone else was told that they were simply landing to begin their coup against the Emperor. Narath and the select few who knew would make their way to the escape pods when everything was set. Though he had Pavan jailed in the detention block, the loyalist escaped with the aid of one of his comrades, an Imperial Navy trooper named Meshik Gallagane. The two made it to the bridge, where they told everyone of Narath's suicidal plan. A firefight broke out between the hardline conspirators and the crewmen who were kept in the dark. During the shootout, Narath and Pavan had a fight. Pavan shot him with a blaster.

The coup was ultimately thwarted and the Contagion stopped before reaching the Palace.

Personality and traits[]

It did not surprise me that you are dumb enough to remain loyal to the Emperor. Today, we will kill you both.
—Narath to Martio Pavan

Narath was considered by many of his instructors and peers to be a skilled tactician and military commander. While at the academy, he developed a rivalry with fellow cadet Martio Pavan, who was also a brilliant tactician and strategist. The two ended up becoming enemies, and Pavan later killed Narath. Though initially loyal to the Empire, he developed a dislike of Emperor Palpatine as he thought that the man sent many Imperial personnel to their deaths for no reason. For this, he decided to take part in a coup against the Emperor. However, it ultimately failed.
