I feel more comfortable with any weapon at my side than none.
Whoa... he looks a bit like General Kenobi!
—Unknown clone trooper referring to Ves Lahtel
At an early age, Lahtel's family realized that he had more than normal awareness and that he must have had Force abilities. He was known on Hypori in the small town he lived in as being the collected, silent and smart child always collecting parts of ships and other electronics for his own use. No one knew what he did with the objects that he collected.
Years after his family was killed by thieves, he was captured and taken to Apatros where he and his captures would begin searching for cortosis in the mines to no avail. He worked under them for a few months, and eventually escaped and made his way back to his homeworld. Because of this experience he was much stronger and more agile both physically and mentally. He spent countless hours training by himself for the rest of his life after this experience.
By the time he arrived at the Jedi Temple, he was already suprisingly adept at channeling his Force connection.
As he progressed in the Order, he was acknowledged as having one of the strongest Force abilities of all the Jedi. He was once thought by the younger Jedi to be the chosen one. It is not documented who his master was.
Despite the importance of Lahtel's master in his development, the human Jedi never had a padawan of his own, making him one of the few Jedi promoted to master without having a padawan.
Over the course of his distinguished career, Lahtel fought in many battles and proved his worth both in the field and as an advisor within the Jedi Council. It seemed the death of his master, who would later visit him as a Force ghost, had deeply affected Lahtel. Ves took part in the Stark Hyperspace War—a dangerous conflict in the Outer Rim Territories. A Jedi team had been sent to settle the dispute, but had been caught up in the fighting.
On numerous occasions, Lahtel's flying skills saved the lives of his fellow Jedi. Lahtel also demonstrated his skill and bravery in ground combat. In the middle of battle with the CIS, Lahtel single-handedly defeated the majority of the CIS troops with just his lightsaber.
Of all of Lahtel's epic acts of bravery and skill, none surpassed those he achieved in his own specialized starfighter, "Lethal Reflex". Lahtel had been awarded the SoroSuub Cutlass-9 patrol fighter by a group of grateful citizens after the Jedi had saved them from space pirates. Due to his skills as a pilot, Lahtel was permitted to keep the gift and immediately set about modifying it. The already superb performance of the ship was improved to levels that matched Lahtel's skills. With the removal of systems and the addition of his own custom-made systems, it made the SoroSuub even more nimble than it was, making it a very formidable dogfighting starship. Lahtel took interest in Anakin Skywalker's abilities as a mechanic and began fixing and building things of his own. The Lethal Reflex is considered by many beings in the galaxy to be one of the best designed ships rivaling even Jango Fett's Slave I by many.
From what I've heard, Ves has got the guts he needs to help win this war.
Prior to the Battle of Geonosis, Lahtel helped flight-test a Delta-7 Aethersprite prototype over Coruscant at a young age. Thanks to this trial, Ves Lahtel made several modifications to the starfighters for increased performance. He participated in the Battle of Geonosis in 22 BBY, where he took part in the rescue attempt of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Senator Padmé Amidala in the execution arena, and was one of the few survivors of the task force. When Yoda arrived with the Grand Army of the Republic, Ves Lahtel followed Saesee Tiin onto a Republic gunship with other fellow Jedi. After being dropped off, he took off in his starfighter, Lethal Reflex, to aid Saesee Tiin in the battle above Geonosis. He, like Saesee Tiin, was mistakenly reported killed in the conflict—this error was later attributed to the confusion of wartime journalism.
I'll fly anything...
As the Clone Wars began and spread, Lahtel took the mantle of a Jedi Knight commanding both ground and air/space forces.
During the Battle of Coruscant, Lahtel had taken his starfighter and led a squadron of ARC-170 starfighters into the orbital battle between the Republic's Open Circle Fleet and the Confederacy's navy, led by the feared droid leader General Grievous.
His status after Order 66 was unknown.
Talents, Powers, and Abilities
Ves Lahtel was a particularly talented Jedi, and had always performed well in all of his previous conflicts that he participated in. Lahtel was the greatest star pilot in the Jedi Order before Anakin Skywalker. Lahtel was a masterful Form V practitioner, making him a very skilled swordsman that few Jedi could rival.
As a Padawan, he was known as one of the greatest pilots in the Jedi Order, expressing great interest in the early Jedi starfighter program. During the Clone Wars, he led many attacks from the cockpit of his starfighter.
Ves Lahtel was one of the greatest swordsmen and Force-users of the era, trained as a guardian.
As a young Jedi Padawan, Ves Lahtel showed much potential, through feats such as resisting a memory wipe. In his early years, Lahtel was trained in Ataru, but later abandoned it as his primary form due to its lack of defense resulting in the death of Obi-Wan's master. However, he still kept elements of Ataru in his swordplay, which he utilized in numerous battles. After abandoning Ataru, he studied in and mastered the defensive Soresu form of lightsaber combat. Even masters such as Obi-Wan Kenobi acknowledged Ves's prowess with this simple and solid form.
Lahtel also utilized elements of Shii-Cho, infusing aspects into his swordplay in many battles. He also knew Sokan, which he occasionally utilized in his fighting, sometimes using its opening stance, that is, with the blade cocked high. Lahtel was also schooled in the Jar'Kai style of fighting. He was also taught Makashi, the second form of lightsaber combat, and Djem So, the fifth form. He was also taught Juyo.
Ves was trained in use of the Mind trick, Force persuasion, and the more advanced Dominate Mind skill. Because of his great intelligence, Ves somehow learned the ability to become a spirit after death.
Lahtel was also capable of a very powerful Force Push, and Saber throw.
In his later years, Lahtel apparently learned to understand Shyriiwook as well as other alien languages during his lifetime.
