The Veracht (/vɛərˈɑ:kt/, singular Verai) were a nocturnal sentient species that inhabited the swamps of the planet Kizav. They were thought to be a child's fairytale to the other sentient species, the Skavik. They were best known for climbing through the Skavik's windows and stealing their young for food, sometimes devouring whole hives. They were capable of bipedal or quadrupedal locomotion due to their rotating socketed hips. They were the apex predators on Kizav and could even use the poison emitted from their claws and teeth to disorient prey before the kill.
Biology and appearance[]
The Veracht were an aggressive species. Generally speaking, they were thin in structure but not frail; thin muscles stretched under flesh allowed them to remain strong and flexible. To help them shift from being bipeds to quadrupeds almost all Veracht were double jointed. Their inky eyes saw things in infrared which allowed them to track movement and body heat. The small holes on the side of their head allowed for exceptional hearing to track prey. They had a single set of forty pointed, poison-laced teeth. Their bite was able to cause an adult-sized male to become disoriented in a matter of hours and hallucinating within a few days if untreated. If untreated they would bring the victim to death within seventy standard hours. The same poison was emitted from their four digit clawed hands and toes.
Society and culture[]
The Veracht were a species that did not have a society of rules. The only rulers that they had were in their individual clutches. They maintained a pack mentality with an alpha male. If two clutches happened across each other it was not unheard of for them to fight until a new single alpha male was proven victorious. They did not believe in wasting resources or coddling their wounded. If a Verai was unable to survive by itself it was left behind to die or in some cases even killed by the alpha male. The alpha male was the one who chose whom he mated with and there was almost no known coupling in the Veracht society. The males tended to pick the strongest females, believing in strengthening their genetics.
Religion[]
The Veracht were not known to have any form of religion. They assumed that since they were the apex of their planet they were the apex of all things.
Military[]
There was no formal military among the Veracht. If someone declared war on the Veracht as a species then as a species they would retaliate.
History[]
The Veracht originated on Kizav. They kept to the dense swamps of the planet, building their homes out of branches from the low hanging trees. They had always been predators. When they discovered the Skavik who lived in stationary homes it became natural to sneak in through their windows and eat their children. The warm climate made it easy for the Veracht to hunt year round. If they encountered adult Skavik they would incapacitate them, slowly working their way through whole hives sometimes just to eat. Always the Veracht would eventually return to their hollows in the swamps.
When the Veracht were approached by the Reawakened, and Sacco Vyrak and Ador Hentral promised as many Skavik as they could kill, as well as passage to other planets so that they could spread their hunting further. It was this greed for murder that caused Rin Sakaros to wipe them out of the galaxy.
