The Venator-class II Star Destroyer, also known as a Republic Attack Cruiser or Jedi Cruiser, was a class of Star Destroyer used by the Republic Navy. They were based on the older Venator-class Star Destroyers, with key differences including better weaponry, stronger shields, and up-to-date propulsion systems.
Characteristics[]
General Characteristics[]
As with the original Venator-class, this class of Star Destroyers was wedged-shaped with two bridges and a long central hanger with ventral access doors. Like all Venators, these vessels were slightly over one kilometer long. These vessels were identical to the original class, in all but power.
Each destroyer had a crew of 1,400, far less than the 7,400 of the original Venator-class. This reduction in crew size was accomplished through heavy use of automation.
Hanger[]
Like the original Venator-class, the Venator II featured a wide array of hangar space. The forward section of the Star Destroyer featured a passage down the middle, with bays for starships on either side. It was mainly accessed by large doors on top of the ship. Overseeing the passage was a raised command station positioned at the aft. Even further aft, the Venator had two independent docking bays on their port and starboard sides, again protected by blast doors.
Bridges[]
The Venator II featured two bridges, with the starboard bridge serving as the primary command center of the ship and the port bridge being dedicated to starfighter operations. These bridges were raised from the main body of the destroyer and provided a wide, panoramic view of the battle. The bridges featured large windows at the front, with two sunken pits behind, with a raised command walkway in between. Further behind, a holotable sat between two sets of blast doors which could be used for communication, ship analysis and troop movements.
Engines[]
Like the original model, the Venator II featured eight engines, with distinct sizes.
Landing capabilities[]
Venators required specialized landing strips to perform atmospheric landings, such as those on Coruscant. However, surface landings could occur.
Complement[]
Along with its impressive starfighter complement the Venators also carried several gunships, shuttles, a variety of ground vehicles and modular components in order to deploy a planetary garrison.
History[]
After the Battle of Exegol and the defeat of the First Order, the Republic was re-established. Learning from the mistakes made by the New Republic, the Republic Senate commissioned the construction of a new class of Star Destroyers to prepare for any new threat. To make the new Star Destroyers more affordable, the Republic based them off an older class. The Republic chose the Venator-class due to its ability to fill the roles of both a warship, ship to ship combat, as well as the role of a carrier.
The Venator-class II was built mainly using recycled material from scrap worlds such as Bracca. Though based on the Venator starships of the Clone Wars, the design was modified to modernize the class. The Venators composed the vanguard of the Open Circle Fleet.
