The following is a basic explanation of the ranks and responsibilities of Vanguard personnel, arranged by branch. Individual duties and responsibilities could vary widely by assignment and situation. With that in mind, the information here provided should be viewed as a general guideline rather than concrete rules.

Common Ranks[]

Cadet (P1)[]

Rank given to personnel during Basic Training

Recruit (P2)[]

Rank given after Cadets graduate from Basic Training to Advanced Individual Training

Fleet Ranks[]

Enlisted Level One (E1)[]

Apprentice to an E3 or C1 crew member, given after AIT

-Quartermaster's Apprentice 1 (E1-Q)[]

Recorded and allocated supply shipments

Maintenance Apprentice 1 (E1-M)[]

Maintained ship systems

Bridge Crew Apprentice 1 (E1-B)[]

Understudied bridge crew on capital ships

Gunner's Apprentice 1 (E1-G)[]

Maintained and trained on manned weapons systems on capital ships and gunships

Pilot In Training (PIT)[]

Pay equivalent of an E1, underwent twelve weeks of training on fighters, bombers, and gunships

Enlisted Level 2 (E2)[]

Held same responsibilities as E1, higher pay rate

-Quartermaster's Apprentice 2 (E2-Q)[]

Recorded and allocated supply shipments

Maintenance Apprentice 2 (E2-M)[]

Maintained ship systems

Bridge Crew Apprentice 2 (E2-B)[]

Understudied bridge crew on capital ships

Gunner's Apprentice 2 (E2-G)[]

Maintained and trained on manned weapons systems on capital ships and gunships

Enlisted Level 3[]

Assisted C1 or C2 officers, commanded crews of E1 and E2 personnel

Quartermaster's Assistant (E3-Q)[]

Coordinated E1 and E2 personnel in following orders from the Quartermaster

Maintenance Assistant (E3-M)[]

Coordinated E1 and E2 personnel in following orders from the Mechanical Officer

Bridge Crew Assistant (E3-B)[]

Coordinated E1 and E2 personnel in following orders from the Bridge Crew, operated bridge systems

Gunner's assistant (E3-G)[]

Coordinated E1 and E2 personnel in following orders from the Mechanical Officer and Gunners

Commissioned Officer 1 (C1)[]

Interacted directly with enlisted personnel, responsible for issuing and relaying orders

Quartermaster 1 (C1-Q)[]

Ordered and coordinated delivery of supplies to a single corvette

Maintenance Officer 1 (C1-M)[]

Given responsibility over a single gunship, starfighter, or capital ship system

Bridge Officer 1 (C1-B)[]

Operated bridge systems, managed inter- and intra-force communications in the field

Gunner 1 (C1-G)[]

Operated manned weapons on capital ships or door and rear guns on gunships

Training Ranks[]

All training personnel were veterans of other branches, and held a minimum rank of C2

Instructor 1 (T1)[]

Responsible for training P1 and P2 personnel in their branch

Basic Instructor 1 (T1-B)[]

Trained all P1 personnel

Fleet Instructor 1 (T1-F)[]

Trained all P2 Fleet Recruits

Intelligence Instructor 1 (T1-I)[]

Trained all P2 Intelligence Recruits

Security Instructor 1 (T1-S)[]

Trained all P2 Security Recruits
