Valeri Tenau, nicknamed Val, was a Human male Mandalorian sniper and bounty hunter. He was a member of Clan Tenau who lived during the waning years of the Old Republic.

Biography[]

Didn't expect to find a Mandalorian here, did you, shabuir Jetiise? I swore I'd kill you - kill you all for what you did -
—Valeri Wren, during his duel with Kass Copek and Ashrruk

Early life[]

Val's parents, members of Clan Tenau who sided with the True Mandalorians, were both killed during the Battle of Galidraan in 44 BBY. Their son, while still a boy who had not fought in the battle, swore to exact his revenge on the Jedi for the massacre. During the next ten years he became a bounty hunter for hire, taking the dirtiest jobs and hunting Jedi whenever possible.

A complicated profession[]

Val killed at least three Jedi Knights before being arrested by Republic law enforcement in 36 BBY. He was originally captured for killing one of his employers - a Hutt who, although a crime lord, had more than a few Republic interests - although after his past was discovered, the officials had no trouble finding more aboveboard reasons to hold him.

Prison break[]

Soon after his arrest, two other prisoners arrived on the transport, having also been arrested under false charges - Kass Copek and her apprentice Ash. The two broke Val out of his maximum-security cell, believing he would help them escape. After realizing that they were Jedi, however, he intended no such thing, attacking Kass as soon as they reached the transport's weapons storage and he got his armor back. They fought a heated duel, Kass eventually growing fed up with his taunting tactics and giving in to the Dark Side, nearly killing Val with a sudden counterattack and shocking him into temporary submission.

Afterwards[]

Val worked with the two Jedi to escape and actually parted with them on neutral terms. Before they went their separate ways, Kass told him that she would be honored if they could duel again sometime, as he had been a worthy opponent. He did meet Ash again years later, working with her under rather forced circumstances, but they parted with a new respect, He returned to bounty hunting afterwards, although it is not known if he killed any more Jedi. Val was killed during a fight with members of the Death Watch towards the end of the Clone Wars.

Personality and traits[]

Val was wary of others, believing he could look after himself and being downright uncooperative on group missions with fellow bounty hunters. He never forgot his grudge against the Jedi, attacking Kass ferociously when she least expected it. Val didn't get along with Ashrruk either, although they later found themselves working together, and parted again with a level of respect. He was also touchy about his height and initially youth, feeling driven to succeed for many reasons.

Powers and abilities[]

Val was an expert marksman and climber, although in Ashrruk's opinion his starfighter piloting skills left much to be desired. He could handle multiple blaster types, including his favorite sniper rifle, to deadly effect. Sometimes described as hardheaded and unintelligent, he was nevertheless a master of stealth and assassination.

Equipment[]

As a bounty hunter and assassin specializing in killing Jedi, Val routinely used a heavily modified WL-29 sniper rifle dating from the Old Republic, along with an equally ancient RX-7 repeating blaster pistol. His pistol had the ability to be set on an automatic, blindingly fast random firing pattern that was designed to disorient even Jedi, while the rifle had been updated to accept modern power packs.

Although he did not own a jetpack, Val's boot soles and gloves could be magnetized via control pads on his vambraces, enabling him to walk on metal walls and even crawl upside-down on the ceilings of low-gravity environments, such as spaceship interiors. He wore basic green Mandalorian beskar'gam which he had painted with gold highlights, the color traditionally used to represent vengeance.
