Ur-Spice, also known simply as "the spice" was a strange narcotic substance endemic to the planet Bucheshan in Gargan Space. It was often differentiated from standard Spice that was used as a recreative drug throughout the galaxy in that Ur-Spice was cultivated and processed specifically with the intent of unlocking latent Force powers in Adeptis Uralis recruits. The Ur-Spice was naturally produced on isolated refineries on Bucheshan. Its usage was illegal across Gargan's Empire and it was only ingested during specially overseen Adeptan Trials.
The Ur-Spice was described by Gargan's Empire as an "awareness spectrum narcotic". When ingested by an ordinary person, they would experience violent convulsions, madness, or organ failure. When taken by a Force-sensitive, it provided the user with clairvoyance and heightened senses. Prolonged usage of Ur-Spice eventually robbed the user from most of their senses, being left solely with the ability to mentally project themselves across vast distances. During the Adeptan Trials, Ur-Spice was used to train recruits in communing with the Force, and contributed in their ability to selectively block parts of their mind related to guilt, doubt, or emotional trauma.
