The planet Umbara, informally known as the Shadow World due to the rays of its sun never completely reaching its surface, was a perpetually dark planet within the reaches of the Ghost Nebula. It was home to the Umbarans, a species of pale Near-Humans. It was also the home of the Umbaran Sith Temple, where the Shadow Assassins lived for generations. It was the site of an airfield on the base which Ganner Slarwalker, Yula Ardinn, Tyrral Thraxton, and Bail Malakath raided shortly before discovering the Umbaran Sith Temple and beginning the Shadow Conflict.

History[]

Long before the Shadow Conflict, Umbara became home to a group of skilled Sith assassins known as the Shadow Assassins. After the conclusion of the New Sith Wars, the Assassins were thought to be extinct, but in reality they had merely gone into hiding. Generations later, Varad Zagg, the current head of the Assassins, formed a plan to use the Binding to ressurect the fallen Sith and take over the Galaxy.

In the time of the Clone Wars, Umbara was aligned with the Confederacy of Independent Systems and an airbase was built on Umbara that the Republic deemed vital to destroy.

Ganner, Yula, Tyrral, and Bail infiltrated the Umbaran airfield and fought their way to a hangar where four Umbaran tanks were located. They each took one tank and scrambled the airfield, using the tanks to destroy Umbaran forces and anti-air defenses. After the airfield was taken care of, the team ditched their tanks and made their way into the Umbaran wilderness to hide until backup arrived.

After some trekking, the team discovered an ancient Umbaran Sith Holocron. It led them to the Umbaran Sith Temple, luring Ganner into opening the Temple's door by using the voice of his deceased master, Jason Battleboots. When the door opened, the team met Arek Saris, Varad Zagg, Talzin, and Darth Massikus, who attacked the group. Ganner, in an unprecedented display of power, fought off the attackers long enough for the rest of the team to escape, but was captured. Ganner was then possessed by Darth Massikus, who left Umbara to hunt down the rest of the Jedi. Saris, on orders from Varad, pursued him in order to find an opportunity to kill him.

Eventually Ganner overcame Massikus and cast his spirit out, and Saris returned to Umbara with Xux and several other Death Watch mercenaries to fullfill the next step of Varad's plan. Xux was possessed by the spirit of Darth Ruin as Yula Ardinn, captured in secret by Talzin, was possessed by Darth Massikus. Massikus, claiming to have spoke to his apprentice in the afterlife, immediately left Umbara to seek him.

Umbara was the site of the final battle of the Shadow Conflict, known as the Eclipse of Umbara. Ganner and Antimatter Squadron, allied with the Brotherhood, assaulted the airfield and Temple. The Brotherhood was tricked into activating Eclipse Protocol, which resulted in the Brotherhood HQ's superlaser firing and destroying the airfield and much of the area around it, also resulting in the deaths of many high-ranking Brotherhood members. After the blast, Talzin revealed to that she had amplified his connection to the Force and the dark side in particular and urged him to abandon the Jedi code to defeat the Sith Assassins, which he did. After the battle, Ganner and Antimatter Squadron quickly escaped, leaving the Brotherhood to lick their wounds.

The events of the Eclipse did not go unnoticed, and Emperor Palpatine assigned the Inquisitor Decien to investigate what had happened. He discovered the ruins of the temple as well as the journals of several Shadow Assassins detailing what had happened leading up to the Eclipse. From these journals Decien learned of the Binding and Ganner Slarwalker's existence, planting the seeds for the Resurgence Conflict and the Binding of Ganner Slarwalker.
