Tund, colloquially called Tund City by some Galactic Basic speakers to distinguish it from the planet, star, and system of the same name, was the de facto capital of Tund that held the distinction of being the oldest extant Sith settlement on the planet.

History

Deforestation

The first generation Kissai heretics responsible for colonizing Tund originally resided aboard the parked Rakata ship Pride of Lehon, building the Kâstrûmtûnd fortress around and atop the Pride for protection from Tund's predatory arthropods.[2] Though they deforested both the Insurûsuttaqorit river island upon which they resided and the region on the opposing riverbanks they subsequently called the Sutta Kotsuskak, these Sith made no effort to make use of the cleared land for any other purpose than farming.

Villages to town

In subsequent millennia, the Sith population on Tund grew substantially. The Sutta Kotsuskak, originally home only to farms and homesteads, eventually came to host small, disconnected villages nestled along the banks of the Dzidardû river opposite the Insurûsuttaqorit. Over time, these villages grew in size as more settlers moved off the river island, prompting the construction of a network of suspension bridges in the vicinity of the Yunwoyanjat bifurcation that connected the disparate villages to each other and the Insurûsuttaqorit. The subsequent millennia saw the gradual unification of these villages into a single entity that represented the only town-sized settlement on the planet.

Town to city

This settlement, known only by the same name as the planet on which was located, underwent further expansion with the arrival of Sith-Human half-breed colonists from the Sith Worlds[2] in the years following the establishment of the old Sith Empire in 6900 BBY.[3][4][5] Though this half-breed minority originally resided upriver of the Yunwoyanjat, the formation of the noble[6][7] House of Tund[sw] and subsequent decline in cultural conflict between purebloods and half-breeds led to further expansion of Tund proper as Sith-Humans began relocating to the town precinct.

Behind the scenes

Ever respectful of precedent in canon, the author chose to lazily name the city in question "Tund" after discovering that the authors of the The Essential Atlas provided firsthand illustration of their prodigious creative intellect by imaginatively naming every celestial body in the Tund system "Tund."
