The Force has guided me my entire life; sometimes I listen, other times I submit to the will of others. A seat on the High Council will allow me to express my interpretation of the Will of the Force and guide the Order and its members into Balance.
—Tsui Choi, accepting a seat on the High Council.

Tsui Choi was a male Aleena who served as a Jedi Master and a member of the Jedi High Council during the Jedi Renaissance. Serving in several Jedi campaigns throughout his career such as when the Yinchorri became suddenly aggressive and fought against the Republic in Year 2, Choi served as a General in the Grand Army of the Republic in their fight against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Following the conclusion of the war, Choi joined the High Council for the duration of the transition period from being stationed on Coruscant to Ossus.

Biography[]

Early life[]

A Force-sensitive Aleena from his species' homeworld, Tsui Choi was turned over the Jedi Order at birth and trained on Coruscant for the next decade. Once selected by Jedi Master Wyla Darrst, Choi studied the art of diplomacy while attempting to compensate for his height while practicing his lightsaber technique. Under Darrst's tutelage, Choi overcame his lack of confidence in his height and passed his Trials of Knighthood. Pursuing the path of the Consular, Choi wielded a green-bladed lightsaber he had created during his apprenticeship on Ilum, though he preferred to spar with his words and his with then with his weapon. One he had established himself as a competent Knight, Choi took on the Anx Jedi Theen Fida as his apprentice and taught him all he knew about the Force and the Jedi. Midway through Fida's apprenticeship the High Council decided to elevate Choi to the rank of Master in recognition of his masterful handling of the civil war on Arva in the Mid Rim.

In Year 2, Choi volunteered to go as part of one of three Jedi task forces being sent to investigate Yinchorri aggression in the star systems neighboring their homeworld of Yinchorr. Choi was sent to the oceanic world of Yitheeth alongside a team consisting of himself, Fida, and Masters Adi Gallia and Eeth Koth; specifically to locate a Yinchorri compound on the planet. While on board a Consular-class cruiser, the four Jedi crash-landed on that world, to find that there was no such base on the planet. There was only a force of Yinchorri warriors there to ambush them. Choi and the other Jedi fought their way through the Yinchorri and find transport off the planet. The four Jedi then traveled to a nearby planet, Yibikkoror, where another of the task forces was carrying out a similar mission. The two groups of Jedi met and set a course to Yinchorr, where Jedi Masters Mace Windu, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Saesee Tiin, along with Jinn's Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi; were busy holding off a massive Yinchorri attack. Choi and the other Jedi joined the fight and, during the ensuing multi-planetary battle, Theen Fida was killed. Choi was greatly disturbed by the death of his Padawan and mourned his death in silence. Because of this, when he caught a Devaronian associate of the Yinchorri army whom the Jedi had captured, smuggler Holmar Grahrk, trying to steal a Consular-class cruiser to escape Yinchorr, Choi approached him angrily and took him into custody. Choi later attended the funeral of his Padawan on the planet Coruscant where Fida was cremated alongside Micah Giiett and Lilit Twoseas, other Jedi who were killed during the excursion.

Clone Wars[]

This war is counter to everything we have learned about diplomacy. What has the Order become? Can we ever recover from this? Will we have the chance?
—Tsui Choi ponders about the future of the Order after war

When the Clone Wars erupted between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems Choi reluctantly took up the rank of General in the newly-formed Grand Army of the Republic and led troops against the droid army. He led a group of clone trooper pilots known as Red Squadron into battle on Kamino alongside Aayla Secura, at the beginning of the war. Red Squadron fought valiantly over Tipoca City when Separatist forces attacked the Kaminoan cloning facility producing troops to bolster the Republic's army. The Jedi battle plan assigned Choi's squadron the task of taking on attacking Separatist starfighters in Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptors while Blue Squadron, under the command of Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, attacked incoming troop transports. During the battle, Jedi Master Kossex, a member of Choi's squadron, was shot down and was killed by the opposing force before the Republic forces could repel the invaders.

Later in the war, Master Choi was one of several Jedi who were on the Republic troopship VCD987. While traveling to the planet Drongar, VCD987 came under attack by a large Separatist force and sustained massive damage to its engines. With the engines no longer functioning, Separatist troops under the leadership of a Sith Lord, Count Dooku, boarded the ship and cornered Choi and his companions, Knights Sian Jeisel and Kai Justiss. In an attempt to appear merciful and sway the Jedi team to the Separatist cause, Dooku allowed the captives to go free, opting to only kill the clone troopers accompanying them instead.

During the fight to rebuff Separatist invaders of the planet Kashyyyk three years later, Tsui Choi and a team of Aleenan scouts performed reconnaissance missions for the Republic, riding can-cells through the forests of the planet. Choi was in the process of leaving the system when an emergency signal from Coruscant recalled all Jedi back to the Temple there. Traveling with Grand Master Yoda, Quinlan Vos and Luminara Unduli, Choi arrived at the Temple for the Conclave of Coruscant during which Tomac Moorcé was announced as the new Grand Master. During the Conclave, Choi was asked before the High Council and asked to join its number to replace the recently deceased Master Saesee Tiin who had been murdered by Sith Lord Darth Sidious before his subsequent death at the hands of Master Mace Windu.

Jedi Renaissance[]

Accepting the position on the High Council, Choi hoped to bring reform to a body he saw as greatly misguided. Supporting the Grand Master's ideas of reform and rebuilding Ossus, Choi happily moved to Ossus where he observed the Order slowly grow in size and heal from the ravages of war. Working with the High Council to transform the Order's position on working with the Republic, the Confederacy and the Force, Choi urged the Council to return to seeking a Balance with in each Jedi. Like the Je'daii of old, Choi believed that trying to please everyone and be subservient to the law had drawn the Order into a mire of politics and darkness. Reform came quicker then any in the Order thought possible; the High Council was open to some marriages and even allowed some oft-forbidden techniques to be practiced.

Things went so fast that by Year 18, only two full years after joining the High Council, Choi felt his duty was fulfilled and found it an acceptable time to step down and retire. Setting up a small, seaside cottage on the beaches opposite Knossa and the Eocho Mountains, Choi enjoyed the crashing of waves and the sound of the sand. Admiring the Order for its ability to change and adapt, Choi refused to take another Padawan but often traveled to the nearby Academy and appeared as a guest lecturer to the joy of many of the students. Continuing his day by the sea, Choi became one with the Force in Year 37.

Powers and abilities[]

Tsui Choi received his initial training at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, ensuring that he possessed a standard understanding of the Force, and its applications. Having achieved the rank of Knight, Choi was also proficient with a lightsaber, having crafted one himself and imbuing it with a green crystal discovered in the caves of Ilum. Developing his skills as a Consular, Choi was a skilled pilot and healer and was capable of draining the tension from a room and pursuing a peaceful path to understanding. As a Jedi Master, Choi was very skilled in the use of the Force and in lightsaber combat. Choi generally used his small stature to his advantage in battle, incorporating a wide array of acrobatic feats and quick attacks when he fought, which he gained through his mastery of the lightsaber form known as Ataru, the second form.
