Toonbuck Toora was a female Sy Myrthian senator of Sy Myrth in the Senate of the Galactic Republic.
Biography[]
Toora was once an idealist and entered the Senate with the goal of weeding out corruption. As her task stretched on and on, Toora's idealism left her until, jaded and cynical, she embraced the culture of greed that so many others did. She became one of the most corrupt Republic politicians. Toora became one of the supporters of the Trade Federation, mostly because she profited from this.
While most of the Senate was divided, belonging either to the Core faction or to the Rim faction, Toora was autonomous and still influential, being a political ally of figures such as Orn Free Taa of Ryloth, Edcel Bar Gane of Roona and Passel Argente, the Magistrate of the Corporate Alliance. The group was a partidary of Senator Palpatine of Naboo, a relative newcomer to the political scene of Coruscant who, nevertheless, had managed to grasp Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum's attention.
Noticing that Valorum favored Palpatine, Toora questioned Palpatine about the advice he had been giving to the Chancellor. The Naboo was noncommittal, suggesting that he had only helped the Chancellor to grasp the bigger picture. By saying this, he surprised the Sy Myrthian and catched her attention, but he excused himself before answering any further inquiry.
In 33 BBY, Chancellor Valorum proposed the taxation of the until then free trade zones. Senator Palpatine of Naboo then suggested that a part of the collected money could be invested in the growth of planetary systems in the affected areas. While senators of that region supported the idea, Toora and other delegates (including Po Nudo and Wat Tambor) openly opposed to it. She was in luck when Palpatine proposed that the matter be resolved at a Trade Summit on Eriadu and, once the Eriadu delegate accepted the idea, Toora was quick to second the motion.
Later, Toora seceded Sy Myrth from the Republic prior to the outbreak of the Clone Wars, joining Count Dooku's Separatist movement. However, her efforts towards her and her people would not last that long when the Clone Wars came to an end.
When the war ended, Toora received the news of the newly-formed Galactic Empire and the Jedi were accused as traitors. Toonbuck finally understood how the Republic was corrupted and Palpatine would lie every senator that stood for the Republic for many years. She believed that the Jedi were used as slaves to Palpatine and they would later face their death when Order 66 was issued.
Following a year after the formation, Toonbuck received contact from Emperor Palpatine to announce that the planet must serve their loyalty to the Imperial Senate. Toonbuck refused since she was angry how he deceived both sides and would never serve him. Palpatine gave her a simple warning of what the Empire would do, but Toora ignored his warning and demanded justice to restore the Republic and the Jedi are not enemies. As an Imperial fleet approached the planet, Toonbuck ordered her people to evacuate the city, and hide from the Empire's corruption. As the city was taken by the Empire, Toonbuck promised her people that they will take everything back, and to not lose hope.
In 17 BBY, Toonbuck received a message from Marath Vooro about the Separatist holdouts that are against the Empire. Toonbuck agreed to join this new-formed organization, and gave hope to her people that everything would be restored again. The people of Myrth cheered, and joined the holdouts to reorganize their home. Joining forces with other species, they led a Siege on Sy Myrth and attacked many Imperials. The planet was finally taken back from Toonbuck, and the remaining Imperials that surrendered were forced to comply in serving the holdouts and admit how the Empire is spreading chaos throughout the galaxy or die. The Imperials agreed to follow Toora's speech in bringing the Republic back to its feet.
Years later in 2 BBY, Toonbuck discovered a rebellion, known as the Rebel Alliance, that fought against the Empire in restoring the Republic. Toonbuck and her people joined the Alliance and fought in a number of occasions throughout the galaxy. After the Empire's defeat, the people of Myrth joined the New Republic and became noble friends to Alderaan and Naboo. Toora continued her service in the Republic until her homeworld was invaded by the Yuuzhan Vong. She was perished in the fight, but most of people fled into hiding until New Republic forces arrive to rescue them and drive the Vong out of Myrth. The battle was over, and the people of Myrth were saved. Toonbuck's body was buried, and she would be remembered as one of the heroes of the galaxy.
