Toah Jarsan was a Human male Jedi Knight hailing from the Outer Rim world of Dantooine. A descendant of House Sendor lineage, Jarsan went on to be trained in the ways of the Force by the renown Jedi hero Luke Skywalker.
Biography[]
Pre-birth and early life[]
Unlike the rest of his family, Aron Jarsan was more known for his scientific research rather than farming. Establishing a research facility at the age of twenty-four, Jarsan Developmental Sciences became a frequent stop for the Galactic Empire for three years until they inexplicably ceased visiting. It was at that point that Aron Jarsan met Naya Sendor, a former Jedi and member of the Revanite cult, an underground organization that worshiped Revan. Falling in love with her, Aron Jarsan married Sendor and converted to the Revanite faith for her.
Three years later, the two had a son whom they named Toah. It was Naya's belief that their son was the reincarnation of Darth Revan and raised him in the hopes that he would one day reclaim the mantle of Dark Lord of the Sith. Aron Jarsan knew this was not the case but did not wish to disappoint his wife. Thus he developed a device that would implant false memories into his son, making him believe that he -- Aron -- was actually Revan. However, these memories failed to be implemented properly and instead remained dormant.
For the next eighteen years the Jarsans were a secluded family. Toah was rarely allowed to interact with other children outside of school and had a strange relationship with his parents. He rarely saw his father Aron, who usually locked himself in his lab to work on projects, which hardly ever turned out well. His mother Naya would shower him with affection, but it never came across a heartfelt. While he was unaware of her belief and deification of Revan, he would still get the impression that she was merely trying to mold him to fit her vision, whatever that vision was.
Jedi training[]
At the age of eighteen, Jarsan joined the New Republic Starfleet Academy with fellow Dantooinians Warat Torr and Seph Kisto. He demonstrated remarkable prowess for a recruit, leading to the discovery of his Force-sensitivity. This led Senator Leia Organa Solo to investigate and she met with his parents on Dantooine.[1]
The Jarsans were reluctant to go into much detail on either of their backgrounds, leading Organa to worry whether Jarsan would be a potential threat should he turn to the dark side. Eventually she turned to her brother Luke Skywalker, who agreed to take Jarsan as his apprentice.[1]
Jarsan had a strong relationship with Skywalker, who was as new to teaching a new generation of Jedi as Jarsan was to the Jedi themselves. He helped his master in finding survivors of the Great Jedi Purge, such as Xanus Baran and Kro Sadoon. By 10 ABY, the New Jedi Order had been established and was ready to protect the New Republic from any threat that should arise.
That same year, Jarsan accompanied Skywalker to Had Abbadon, where Imperial forces were based. After a meeting with Admiral Argen, Skywalker sent Jarsan with his sister and brother-in-law to Naboo while he went to Byss. On Naboo, Jarsan and the Solos were captured by Dark Jedi serving the resurrected Palpatine and brought to Byss before the clone Emperor. It was there that Skywalker was revealed to have been captured and brainwashed by the Dark Empire. However, before Palpatine could use Skywalker against them, the spirit of his father Anakin Skywalker intervened and transported Skywalker to another realm. Jarsan and the Solos were then able to escape Byss and returned to Coruscant.[2]
Jedi Knight[]
Early missions[]
The following year, Jarsan was knighted by the Jedi Council. After a mission to Kothlis, he was sent with his fellow Jedi Knight Kyle Katarn to continue his master's original mission in finding more lost Jedi to expand the Order's ranks. Traveling to Telos IV, which was said to have once been the site of a Jedi Academy, they encountered a man who claimed to be a Jedi Master named Sen-Axe Valan. Valan took the two Jedi to his master Soral, where Jarsan and Katarn found out that Valan was actually a Sith known as Starkiller and that Soral was the Sith Lord Darth Vorath.[3]
Vorath used Jarsan to activate the Tedryn Holocron, which was unable to be unlocked by non-Jedi. After having Jarsan get the Prophecy of the Apocalypse out of the holocron, he sent Jarsan and Katarn away and the two Jedi headed for Dathomir, where they encountered a group of Imperials meeting with the native Nightsisters. After a brief conflict, Jarsan and his companion were aided by the Singing Mountain Clan and returned to the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin IV, where Jarsan found his master to have returned alive and well.[3]
Some time after Skywalker's return, Jarsan was sent to Devaron to study the history of the Jedi and the Force under Master Appa Nakil. During this time, Jarsan's fellow Jedi Kyp Durron fell under the influence of the ancient Sith Lord Exar Kun and attempted to use the Sun Crusher superweapon only to be defeated by the Jedi. Not long after, the Jedi Praxeum was attacked by the forces of the Dark Jedi Desann who was eventually defeated by Kyle Katarn. Jarsan returned from Devaron to aid in the cleanup at the Praxeum before joining his master and a team of Jedi to deal with an infestation of Sith Leviathans.[4]
Emergence of the Sith[]
By 25 ABY, Jarsan had become a respected member of the Jedi Order. Although he never took on a full apprentice of his own, he did briefly train some of the prospective students that joined over the past fourteen years. Among these students was Skywalker's nephew Jacen Solo, whom Toah found difficult to teach due to his steadfast, unorthodox stance on the Force.[5]
After clearing a site for a new Jedi Temple on Ossus, Toah returned to Yavin IV, where Skywalker revealed to him that he and the Council had found startling evidence that Jarsan was descended from a Sith Lord.[5] Unbeknownst to them, this information had been planted by Jarsan's father Aron, who had been attempting to create the illusion that his son was descended from Darth Revan.
Along with his master, Jarsan set out to investigate this discovery. Their first stop was the tomb of the ancient Dark Lord Exar Kun, whose spirit had been chained to his resting place following the incident with Durron thirteen years ago. The ghost of Kun, who was secretly playing along with Aron Jarsan's deception, directed the two Jedi to Dromund Kaas.[5]
Accompanied by Kyle Katarn, Toah and Skywalker traveled to the Sith planet, where they found Luke's sister Leia, as well as her husband Han Solo, being held by the mysterious Crimson Emperor. Not long afterwards, Darth Vorath made his appearance and, after slaying the Crimson Emperor, declared himself as ruler of the Empire. He then allowed Jarsan and the others to escape, wanting them to spread the word that the Sith had finally returned.[5]
Imperial-Sith War[]
For most of the war against Vorath's Sith and their empire, Jarsan was kept away from the front lines by Skywalker, who feared that Vorath would try to turn or kill him because of his vendetta. After a battle on his homeworld of Dantooine, Jarsan was caught in an explosion and left for dead as the New Republic was forced to retreat. During his time unconscious, the false memories implanted into him by his father bubbled to the surface, "revealing" to him that his father had been Darth Revan. These same memories also gave him a glimpse into Vorath's origins, giving him an idea on how to defeat the Dark Lord.
Upon awakening on Dantooine, Jarsan decided to set out on his own rather than rejoin his fellow Jedi. Returning to Telos IV in search of the lost Jedi academy, he encountered an ancient Jedi by the name of Vima-Da-Boda, who convinced him that she could be of help. Vima led him to the crew of a smuggler by the name of Raj Braven, who agreed to take him back to Dromund Kaas. However, upon arriving at Dromund Kaas, Jarsan and Raj's crew discovered that the Sith had already abandoned the planet and were mobilizing towards Coruscant. They were then met by Darth Nemesis, who had lost faith in Vorath's plan and wanted to help bring him down. Reluctantly, Jarsan allowed Nemesis to join them and the crew departed for Coruscant, where a battle was already underway.
Shortly after arriving on Coruscant, Raj's ship was shot down, and Jarsan and Nemesis were taken captive by the Sith. Brought before Vorath, the Dark Lord was about to execute Jarsan when Luke Skywalker intervened. While the two masters dueled, Nemesis freed himself and Jarsan before joining in the fight. After Vorath struck down both Skywalker and Nemesis, he assaulted Jarsan with a barrage of Force energy, which Jarsan was able to absorb and push back the lightning, destroying Vorath in one swift stroke. Shortly afterwards, Skywalker became one with the Force as the Battle of Coruscant came to an end.
In the aftermath, Jarsan attended a memorial service for Skywalker and those who had fallen during the war before departing with Raj's crew to further investigate the memories he had experienced on Dantooine, not knowing the truth behind them.
Exile[]
After a year of traveling across the stars, Jarsan and his crew eventually found their way back on Dromund Kaas, which had been abandoned since the defeat of Vorath's Sith. Upon arrival, they encountered a man by the name of Atha Prime, who revealed himself to be Toah's father Aron. After killing Raj and his crew, Atha Prime awakened a clone of Jarsan, which he planned on using to rebuild the Sith and continue Vorath's plans. However, the clone turned against Atha and killed him, thwarting his plans.
While Jarsan and his clone amicably parted ways, Toah began to lose purpose. Having come to the realization that his memories of being descended from Revan were false, he no longer knew what was reality nor what his place in everything was. As such, he retreated to Deralia, a remote world in the Outer Rim, and began life anew, hiding in obscurity. At some point during his self-imposed exile, he encountered the scientist Mammon Hoole, who had since come into possession of the Atha Prime armor and the two began working on deducing its origins and how it operated.
When the Glorians invaded the galaxy in 36 ABY, Jarsan elected to stay out of the conflict, fearing that the Glorians would try to use him to control the rebuilt Star Forge. His clone, meanwhile, played a more active role by forming a Dark Jedi Order and working with the Jedi Order to deal with the Glorian threat. A year into the war, Jaden Korr arrived on Deralia in search of Jarsan and implored him to help in the fight against the Glorians. While Toah declined at first, after Korr left, he began to have second thoughts and eventually had Hoole take him to Coruscant, where the Star Forge was threatening the system. Together with Anakin Solo, Jarsan succeeded in defeating the ancient spirit Valtheran and destroying the station.
Wanderer[]
After the end of the Glorian War, Jarsan vanished from public sight once more; this time, however, he planned on playing a more proactive role in future events. Together with Hoole and former Glorian agents Shadow and Xemer, Jarsan formed the Wanderers, a group dedicated to working behind the scenes in uncovering mysteries and potential threats to the galaxy.
In 40 ABY, Jarsan was forced to land on the remote world of Fhost when his ship ran out of fuel. There he encountered Jaden Korr once again and agreed to help his fellow Jedi in investigating visions which the latter was having. Traveling to a frozen moon in the Unknown Regions, they encountered a group of mad clones made from Force-sensitives such as Kam Solusar and Lumiya. After escaping the moon, Jarsan and his company encountered the time-displaced Sith dreadnaught Harbinger from the Great Hyperspace War. From the dreadnaught, they retrieved an ancient Jedi named Relin Druur, whom they brought back to Ossus.
Jarsan continued to work alongside the Jedi Order as they dealt with a growing conspiracy brewing across the galaxy, led by a young Sith named Varon Krul.
Behind the scenes[]
In the author's earliest stories, Toah was the younger brother of Noah Calynder, a Jedi Knight. Toah was later used as the protagonist of a comic series the author had made and was given the surname "Jarsan", which was derived from a name generator in the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic video game. He was then made the central protagonist of the Star Wars: Destiny series.
