Who deserves what is irrelevant. What matters is who has power.
—Thrawn

Thrawn was a Chiss male who gained some recognition as the Grand Admiral of the 7th Fleet in the Imperial Navy, in addition to being a personal favorite of both Darth Sidious and Darth Vader, before becoming Supreme Commander of the Imperial Military as well. Most notably, he participated in the Galactic Empire's late operations in the Outer Rim Pacifications, in particular the Nightspawn Campaign, in addition to playing a role in the early war effort in the Galactic Civil War and eventually directing the Talon Campaign. Throughout much of his tenure, Thrawn both competed and worked closely with Lazarus Bast, Rufaan Tigellinus, Gideon and Baylan Skoll, while commanding the likes of Rukh, Wullf Yularen, Gar Saxon, Karyn Faro and Gillad Pellaeon.

To most of the galaxy, Admiral Thrawn was yet another exemplification of the coldness and ruthlessness that characterized the Galactic Empire. The opinion of the New Order's adherents varied: to some the Grand Admiral was a bizarre alien officer - qualities striking at the mainstream humanocentrism - who was simply tolerated as a "pet", whereas others viewed him as an unparalleled commander. His calculated desire for ultimate victory was only superseded by a veiled boiling disgust lack of efficiency and loyalty. A henchman of Darth Sidious and Darth Vader, Thrawn was the most brilliant Imperial Officer to have ever served in the Imperial Military. Though claiming to only seek glory for his masters, the Grand Admiral sought in his pride to share in the immense power of the two Sith Lords and suffered no true equal at their side; after their deaths, he sought to establish himself as a worthy heir to their shattered empire.

Lore[]

The Grand Admiral of the Imperial Navy's 7th Fleet, Thrawn is a rising star in the Galactic Empire's upper military ranks. Though favored by Darth Sidious and Darth Vader - and even Wilhuff Tarkin to some degree - his prior fealty to the Chiss Ascendancy and non-human species cast doubt to some on his worthiness of high rank.
