Theed was the capital city of the planet Naboo, and it was where the Theed Royal Palace was located.
History[]
Early in Theed's history, the city was just one of Naboo's many city-states. Around 1,000 BBY, the city, along with the others scattered around the planet, was engulfed in a long and difficult civil war. It was not until the rule of King Jafan of Theed that the conflict ended and Naboo was united under Jafan, with Theed as the planetary capital.
The city's famous unified and harmonious architectural style was the result of strict planning regimes and extensive rebuilding after the upheavals of the ancient past. Its sophisticated culture has produced many able and admired galactic politicians, including Senator Palpatine, whose study and early career were based in Theed.
Naboo Crisis[]
The city was briefly taken over by the Trade Federation in 32 BBY, but freed along with the rest of Naboo after the Invasion of Naboo. During Trade Federation occupation, much damage was caused to the city, resulting in the construction of various new features upon the planet's liberation.
Third Battle[]
A battle erupted in the city in 18 BBY, when the Royal Naboo Security Forces and several Gungans attacked the Imperial garrison in the city, bent on stopping Inquisitor Malorum from learning the secret of the birth of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa Solo. Ultimately, it was ex-Jedi Ferus Olin who confronted Malorum and killed him, resulting in the retreat and destruction of the Imperial squadron. Afterwards, the Theed Hangar, being used by the Imperials to store illegal explosives, was destroyed by Olin; consequently, Naboo escaped serious punishment by the Empire, who didn't wish to draw attention to the fact that they were breaking the law.
Another battle occurred later that year when the Imperial 501st Legion invaded the city, intent on eliminating Queen Apailana and several fugitive Jedi her court had been harboring. The Queen, along with handmaidens, soldiers, and the Jedi that defended the city, were all killed. Queen Kylantha became the new monarch, meant to better serve Imperial interests.
Alliance to Restore the Republic[]
Queen Kylantha decided to keep Naboo occupied in order to serve the Empire, but gathering rebels in order to destroy the Death Star.
