Development[]
The storyline of The Passing was created to fit into the web of personal tales and experiences that form the backbone of the Golden Age of the Republic series. Like the other short stories in the series, The Passing was crafted as first-person reflection on key events in the narrator's history. For The Passing, the snapshot story focused on Anwis Eddicus, who at the time was a senator. The moments captured were those at the death of his wife. The relationship with his daughter and their shared emotional pain are explored as a complement to the events that unfold in Golden Age of the Republic: Ghostly Images.
