Plot[]

After the Battle of Jabiim in the Clone Wars, a legion of captured clone troopers are marched to a Seperatist penal colony on the asteroid Rure Pentha, in the Wye System. They are paraded before the camp commander, Saito, and the Commander Droid, OOM-2187. Saito informs them of his rules, and that all prisoners, regardless of rank, would have to work on the consruction and establishment of a proper hyperspace lane, called the Nexus Route, in order for the Seperatists to win the war.

Several of the clones attempt to escape off planet, but most are killed. The legion's leader, senior clone commander CC-2166 "Nickels" (Singenus) refuses to collaborate with the Seperatists. However, that evening, Nickels is informed that clone sergeant CS-1129, a good friend of Nickels, was brutally killed while trying to escape. The next morning, several troopers report to Saito that Nickels was sleeping restlessly, then crying, then moaning, then yelling. Saito believes the commander has gone mad, but when he next sees Nickels, he is perfectly sane.

Saito tells Nickels to hurry up with the hyperlane, or else Dooku will kill both of them. Unexpectedly, Nickels follows his orders and conducts an inspection. He is shocked by what he finds. Against the protests of some of his officers, he orders clone captain CC-2182 "Reeves" (Petre Wimialls) and clone major CM-1327 "Hughes" (John Robex) to design and build proper stabilizers for the unsteady hyperlane, despite its military value to the Seperatists, for the sake of his men's morale. That night, a few of the clones and other prisoners organize an escape plan, but resolve to leave Nickels out of it.

A few weeks later, Republic Navy Commander Shears (Frod) arrives at the camp, and when told about the hyperlane, refuses to do any work, despite orders from Nickels. He is tortured, but still refuses. He becomes involved in the escape plan, and that night they escape. Nickels orders a squad to fire on the escapers, but they just look at him and escape as well.

The next morning it turns out many of the escapees have been shot dead, Shears himself was badly injured, but a few still survived and reach a local settlement. The aliens there decide to help them escape, and send them off with one of their ship. The arrive at a Republic Outpost nearby, and are given medical treatment. Shears is enjoying his recovery there, but then Denwar, a major in the Grad Army of the Republic Volunteer Corps, asks him to volunteer for a commando mission to destroy the bridge. Shears is horrified at the idea, bu Denwar says he has assigned Shears to Army duty for the time being. Shears reluctantly agrees.

Meanwhile, Nickels drives his men, even volunteering to have them work harder to complete the bridge on time. For Nickels, its completion will exemplify the ingenuity and hard work of the Grand Army of the Republic for centuries. When he finally gains the courage to ask that their Seperatist droid counterparts join in as well, Saito replies that they are fighting in the Outer Rim. Nickels is dismayed, but keeps on working hard.

The commandos are landed on the asteroid by a gunship, although one is killed in a bad landing. With the assistance of captured clone lieutenant CL-8345 "Joyce" (Geoffrey Horne) tells he group that the transporter to the stabilizers are to the north. Denwar is wounded in an encounter with a Seperatist patrol. The trio reach the bridge in time and plant explosives underwater under the disguise of B2 Battle Droids.

A ship carrying soldiers and important dignitaries is scheduled to be the first to use the bridge the following morning, so Denwar plans to destroy the stabilizers at just before the ship comes. However, from the space station's mess hall, Nickels spots the explosives on the stabilizers, and reports to Saito immediately via comm. Saito says, "Get them off right now!" Joyce, hiding with the detonator in the mess hall, breaks cover and stabs Nickels; Nickels yells for help, while attempting to stop Joyce from reaching the detonator. Saito charges down the hall with a contingent of battle droids, only to be killed by Shears. Shears and Denwar yell for Joyce to kill Nicholson, but Joyce is killed by Seperatist fire. The detonator is on a table in the middle of the room, and Nickels and Shears race to get it. Shears is hit several times by debris, aqnd just as he is about to reach the detonator, he is shot by Nickels.

Recognising the severly wounded Shears, Nickels is horrified, and exclaims, "What have I done?" Denwar fires his mortar, mortally wounding the senior clone commander. Nickels stumbles towards the detonator and falls on it as he is dying, just in time to blow up the stabilizers. the ship with the important dignataries violently emerges out of hyperspace, and crashes into the station.

The remaining commandos and the clone prisonerspepare to leave the station via escape pod, but then Shears realizes that Nickels is still alive. The group works together to save him, and then hurriedly board the pod, just as the escape pod room is destroyed.

As he witnessess the destruction of the station through the window, Denwar shakes his head uttering: "Madness...Madness." Floating is space, they are eventually spotted and found, by a Venator-class destroyer
