The Battle of Valandia was an anti-war song from the Union of Earth States, the song was sung by those opposed to the Earth Civil War because the song discussed the most humiliating defeat encountered by the Union during the opening battles of the war, that of the Valand Campaign, which served to quickly give the Confederate States of Earth the advantage, eventually running the Union all the way back to their capital, which the Confederates besieged, forcing the end of the war.
The Republic of Valand had declared her secession from the Union due to refusing Richard Williams' demand for all Union nations to raise forces to put down the Confederacy, at first wishing to remain neutral, though with a pro-Confederate nation policy, Valand signed a treaty with the Confederacy to allow the Confederacy forces to garrison forces within her for mutual defence, the failed Union invasion prompoted Valand to become the 11th Confederate state, the first state to join the original 10-state Confederacy during the First Secessionist Crisis.
The song was also popular in the Confederacy, where it was sometimes sung to celebrate Confederate victories. The song was popular with the Sympathisers, who were Union citizens who sympathised with the Confederacy, and wished for peace negotiations, who often used the song as an example that the decadent Union would be unable to find victory against the independent, and highly determined, Confederacy.
Lyrics[]
The sun shone bright and clear that day we all left Nort-ay-lie-ay, [Nortalia]
To lick the Rebel boys in grey at the Battle of Valand-ie-ay,
They came from Nortalia and some from old Wekland
To see Jane Zarkan's boys get spanked by Richard Williams' old hand.
We said we'll run 'em to Adinia,
And to the Zarkan Bay,
But they ran us back to Williamton,
And Union Cit-ie-ay, and Union Cit-ie-ay.
The boys wore their brightest medals, they were ready for the fray,
They came to see our Union Army whip old Zarkay-nie-ay, whip old Zarkay-nie-ay
A lad held his mother's hand and skipped when a soldier said to he,
"Would you rather have Jane Zarkan's crown or the sidearm of Samuel Tanney?"
We said we'll run 'em to Adinia,
And to the Zarkan Bay,
But they ran us back to Williamton,
And Union Cit-ie-ay, and Union Cit-ie-ay.
And then the General doffed his hat and said let's rest a spell,
And for the first time we all heard that awful rebel yell,
The waters of the valley river became a ruby red,
And many a Reb and Union boy lay on the riverside, dead.
We said we'll run 'em to Adinia,
And to the Zarkan Bay,
But they ran us back to Williamton,
And Union Cit-ie-ay, and Union Cit-ie-ay.
A fight locked in the chest of time too horrible to tell
Valand's fair green countryside became a living Hell
Don't count your chicks before they're hatched or you'll work until it's done,
Remember yes remember long the Battle of Valand-ie-ay.
We said we'll run 'em to Adinia,
And to the Zarkan Bay,
But they ran us back to Williamton,
And Union Cit-ie-ay, and Union Cit-ie-ay...
