Terra Zaffrod was a female Kasci and the first daughter of Wyro and Jira Zaffrod. A member of the Order of Keltrayu from youth, she was a close friend of Delliak Sakaros.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Terra spent much of her early life with her mother, as her father was a serving officer of the Royal Navy of the Golden Empire. In 149 ABY, while the family was vacationing on Irestego, they were attacked by a group of Veracht assassins, but saved by Zahyr and Jira's own bladework. Wyro and Terra were taken into protective custody by the Order of Keltrayu to allow Jira to focus on her part in the Nightmare War; while this was relaxed to allow Wyro to serve aboard the Sith Star, Terra was kept safe in the Citadel for the duration of the war.

When Jira was assigned to supervise Skavik rebuilding efforts on Klee`shlyoo`hshee after the war, she initially left Terra in the care of the Order and with Wyro's parents, although Terra came to Klee`shlyoo`hshee when the situation had stabilized. In 151 ABY, Jira and Wyro finally made the decision to surrender Terra to the Order as a Novice, but only weeks later, Jira herself was appointed a Praetor-Instructor for the Order, allowing her to stay close to her daughter.

Novitiate[]

Terra had gotten to know Delliak Sakaros during her first stay in the Citadel. He was given to the Order as a Novice around the same time as Terra, and their friendship quickly became a strong bond; each was used to vastly different circumstances, and each was also one of the other's only known quantities in a strange new world. As Novices, Terra and Delliak became inseparable best friends.

Though she accepted the need to treat her mother as a Praetor during "school hours", Terra remained very close to her. Jira's position in the Order allowed for a rare concession from Prefect Eskol Kaartinen, who allowed Terra to keep in touch with her father via holocom. She enjoyed spending time with her mother during free periods, and Jira often read Terra (and Terra's roommates) bedtime stories when they were young; Terra became fond of A Brave Little Vizh-Vizh, and both she and Jira used it as a reminder for Terra to be brave even when something scared her.

As she grew, Terra became known among her comrades and her teachers for her candor, to the point that some Centurions were concerned about her ability to lie in the field if necessary. When Dell's sister Nike joined the Order, she was initially jealous of Terra's closeness with her big brother, but eventually Terra and Nike became close friends. Terra enjoyed caring for her baby sister Siobhan, and by the time Jira was rotated out of her instructional assignment in 155 ABY, Terra was able to continue training without her, though she looked forward to visits from her parents.

Change[]

Terra and Dell continued to grow closer as their novitiates progressed, and they shaped and influenced one another's development. As Delliak developed a strong, offensive lightsaber style, Terra naturally adapted with a defensive, agile style which would ultimately become Soresu. She and Dell complemented one another in training; where she forced him to use skill rather than brute strength, he drove her to ever more quick and skillful defense against stronger opponents.

As they became teenagers, however, Terra's relationship with Delliak began to change. Terra found herself feeling more awkward and self-conscious around Dell. Dell, for his part, began to go easier on her in combat training for fear of hurting her, prompting their first major fight as Terra was offended. The spat spread to those close to them—Siobhan began ignoring Dell, and Dell's little sister Amina pronounced them both "really stupid". Always close with Delliak's family, Terra was deeply hurt by the remark, though Nike tried to mediate between the two feuding friends. Dell eventually apologized and began trying harder in combat, patching up the fight, but Terra remained a little vexed at how much the fight had hurt her.

Appearance and Personality[]

Unusual for a Kasci, who tended to have hair, eyes, and skin which were all shades of one metallic color, Terra had her father's silver skin and dark silver hair, but her mother's golden eyes.

My little straightforward fountain of truth...
—Jira Zaffrod, about her daughter

As a child, Terra was usually polite, but had a streak of blunt honesty and candor that sometimes hurt the feelings of her siblings or left adults feeling somewhat wrong-footed. As she grew she tempered her bluntness somewhat, but was unafraid of incisive commentary, and often cut through flowery language or equivocation with highly targeted questions and comments.

Terra was very close with her mother and her baby sister. Though she saw her father more rarely, Jira talked Wyro up regularly and helped the two stay in holo-contact, and Terra consequently felt close to and fond of her father as well. As she grew older, however, her relationship with Delliak Sakaros became one of the closest and most defining of her life. Not only their parents, siblings, and instructors, but even other Centurions noticed the atypically powerful bond between the two.
