Tayan was a male Human from the planet of Alderaan who lived his life as a member of the Jedi Order. Joining the Order as an infant, Tayan achieved Knighthood in 46 BBY following his involvement in the Stark Hyperspace War, a conflict in which he and his master, Valees Kolban, had found themselves caught while on an unrelated mission in the Qotile system.
In 40 BBY Tayan chose his first Padawan learner, a Mon Calamari named Tuya Tiye. Together, the two Jedi completed many assignments from the Jedi High Council, including infiltrating a hive of IG-86 sentinel droids on Hypori. In light of their achievements and service to the Order, the pair were among those Jedi considered to negotiate with the Trade Federation regarding the blockade of Naboo, but ultimately were not chosen.
Ten years later, the Clone Wars erupted across the galaxy.
