Tarsus Valorum was the Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic during and after the New Sith Wars. He was the politician responsible for the Ruusan Reformation, as well as the descendant of Benedict Valorum and the ancestor of Finis Valorum.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Tarsus Valorum was born on Coruscant into the politically influential House Valorum. He was a descendant of Supreme Chancellor Benedict Valorum who served during the Great Rim Lines War and the beginning of the United Pirate Crusades before being assassinated.[1]

Chancellorship[]

During the New Sith Wars, Valorum was elected Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic. His election was said to have been notable as he was the first non-Jedi Chancellor in four hundred years. As he later recounted, Valorum only took the position because Valenthyne Farfalla declined in order to join the Ruusan campaign.[1][2]

Following the Jedi Army of Light’s victory over the Brotherhood of Darkness in the Seventh Battle of Ruusan and the death of Alsius Hoth, Valorum began the Ruusan reformations. As part of this, he organized the separation of the Army of Light with Farfalla. He was re-elected for his second term as Supreme Chancellor shortly thereafter and was a popular figurehead, renowned for bringing in a new golden age for the Republic.[2]

Later activities[]

After his two terms as Supreme Chancellor ended, Valorum remained a prominent ambassador, visiting many worlds to re-establish their ties to the Galactic Republic and to improve galactic relations with unsettled planets. One of these planets was Serenno, and Valorum survived an assassination attempt by the Anti-Republic Liberation Front, which was being secretly aided by Darth Zannah, there thanks to the efforts of Jedi Knight Johun Othone, Valorum’s personal bodyguard.[2]

Legacy[]

Following his death, the year of which was unknown, Valorum remembered for at least one thousand years, including during the time of the Invasion of Utapau. Valorum was not the last Supreme Chancellor from his family; Exies Valorum was elected Supreme Chancellor in 100 BBY and Finis Valorum was elected a few years before the Invasion of Utapau.[1]

Personality and traits[]

Political beliefs[]

As the creator of the Ruusan Reformation, Valorum was very much in favor of the political policies it set forth. Valorum believed in a smaller republican government, turning the Office of the Supreme Chancellor into primarily a legislative position rather than an executive one. He ensured that the Jedi Order went through a significant adjustment in symbolic measures, making sure that the Jedi were viewed not as military warriors that could pose a threat but rather a peaceful religious group.[2]

Valorum also developed a system of accountability where the Jedi Order would be under the supervision of the Republic Judicial Department, which the Jedi agreed to. Valorum was also in favor of other policies that the Jedi chose to adopt; in order to lessen the chance of the return of the Sith, the Jedi Order agreed to only accept apprentices shortly after birth. The training of Jedi Padawans was also centralized to Coruscant to remove the danger of unsupervised students learning about forbidden Sith knowledge.[2]
