Tarfful was a male Wookiee Chieftain of Kachirho and was an old friend of Chewbacca during their early times which led them to the Clone Wars and the beginning of the Great Jedi Purge.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Born around 200 BBY, the same year as Chewbacca, Tarfful and his friend went through a lot of training to become the best warriors of Kashyyyk. After graduating through his hrrtayyk ceremony in 185 BBY, Tarfful was promoted to leader of Kachirho and served for decades.
Imperial slave and Death[]
A few months later, Tarfful was around when a group of six Jedi who had escaped Order 66, led by Olee Starstone, came to Kashyyyk, looking for any of the three Jedi that had been there when Order 66 had been issued. Tarfful fought in the Battle of Kashyyyk during the Great Jedi Purge, but he was rounded up by the Empire and became a slave, destined to help build the first Death Star.
In 18 BBY, Tarfful remained in Kachirho as a slave along with many wookiees under the rule of General Sam Tremel. During his captivity, he tried to make an escape with a group of wookiees that stood by his side. However, their plan was a failure when they were easily caught and were to be moved to a concentration camp where wookiees would prepare to build parts for the Death Star. As Tarfful and the wookiees were been escorted by Captain Bex and his squad, they were ambushed by Jedi Master Quinlan Vos and Vilmarh Grahrk who came to rescue them. The Jedi Master was able to free Tarfful and the group, allowing them to finish off the remaining clones. After Tarfful killed three, he prepared to attack Bex until the clone captain shot him to death.
Legacy[]
After his death, the wookiees buried his body next to a tree and honored him as a true hero and chieftain of Kashyyyk. Chewbacca, who was devastated after his friend's death, swore to avenge him and carry a certain grudge against the Empire. He would soon join the Rebel Alliance, along with many wookiees to face the Empire and put an end to the Death Star.
Personality and traits[]
Tarfful was a fearsome fighter as witnessed by Delta Squad. Normally he was a calm and caring individual. Jedi Grand Master Yoda was a trusted friend of his.
Physical appearance[]
Tarfful's fur varied in color from dark brown to beige on various sections of his body. He wore armor around his shoulders and chest, likely traditional Wookiee armor. He often carried a Wookiee bowcaster on his person.
Behind the scenes[]
Tarfful was played by Michael Kingma in Revenge of the Sith.
According to the Revenge of the Sith DVD text commentary, during Yoda's "goodbye" scene to Chewbacca and Tarfful in the film, Tarfful's roar is actually Itchy's roar from The Star Wars Holiday Special.
In Star Wars: Republic Commando, the squad in which you play has a series of missions revolving around saving Kashyyyk. In one of the missions the objective is to rescue a "Wookiee by the name of Tarfful" (as explained by your clone advisor) from Trandoshan slavers.
The Tarfful Wookiee costume is on display at the Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination exhibit.
Before putting on the Wookiee costume, Kingma had to put on a group of water bags that would move like muscles. He also wore a ventilation sweater that prevented him from getting too hot.
