My user page and other user's talk page[]

This seems like a good place to state this since I can not edit talk pages. I also can't edit my user page, please fix this, I tried asking Brendon Rhea but I couldn't edit talk pages, like I said just now. I hope I'm not confusing anyone, can someone perhaps help me? Thanks, PacBoyCraZ | My talk page 01:19, April 1, 2010 (UTC)

  • This is a persistent editing problem that we and Wikia have been unable to figure out. The best we can tell you now is to try using a different browser. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 01:40, April 1, 2010 (UTC)
  • Exactly what do you mean by use a different browser? I'm using Yahoo!, do you mean I should use something else, like Google for example? Sorry if I'm causing you trouble. PacBoyCraZ | My talk page 03:24, April 2, 2010 (UTC)
    • Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and Safari are examples of browers. Google and Yahoo are search engines.-Chosen OneSo the Prophecy says... 03:25, April 2, 2010 (UTC)
    • Oh, I was confused. I always get search engines and broswers mixed. I'm using Internet Explorer, I'll try FireFox since I'm familiar with that. I'll get back over here on talk if it still isn't helping. But I do have a theory aboutt he template on the user page's. I don't know if the template has anything in the coding, but it may not run very well with the user page editing thing. Yeah, by now I'm confusing you guys, but you probably get my point. April Fools![]

APRIL FOOLS!

Thought we were serious for a minute there, didn’t you? Rest assured, we have not changed our wiki to be the Mary Sue Fanon Wiki. Instead, we’re just poking a little fun out ourselves and the joke that we’re just a bunch of 13 year old Mary Sue writers with delusions of grandeur who think they’re actually the next big thing in Star Wars. Come midnight EST on April 2nd, the wiki will be changed back to its usual state.

  5. WTF, I think that the Goatse is a little offensive, especially to any younger user. Do we really need to be presenting ourselves like that, even on April first? --SoulReaper079(Requiem) 07:03, April 1, 2010 (UTC)
    • That is from a vandal, the server just doesn't like to update after something like that apparently.--Josh BenderTalk 07:09, April 1, 2010 (UTC)

          • *sigh* Do we really have to take ourselves too seriously? The Main Page is using the {{USERNAME}} code. When I see it it says Brandon Rhea, when ITCO sees it it says I'm the Chosen One, and when you see it it says Drsdino. It's April Fools man, please lighten up. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 17:08, April 1, 2010 (UTC)
  12. Didn't come even close to falling for it. Google is "Topeka", the filefront forums have renamed "Star Wars" into "Annikanz Warz", so ya, don't beleive anything you read anywhere today. Ty294{Talk} 16:18, April 1, 2010 (UTC)

Loads and loads of loading![]

Is there anything that can be done about the massive slowdown that occurs on the main page? It just loads nonstop and won't let me do anything else. And yes, I'm using dial-up.--Pinata (Talk) 16:07, May 18, 2010 (UTC)

  • Dial-up is much slower than broadband because dial-up has a bitrate of 56 kilobites per second. This means it will be much slower loading pages. There are two solutions to this problem. 1: You go to http://swfanon.wikia.com/wiki/Special:RecentChanges and bookmark the recentchanges page so you can go to that page rather than dealing with the main page. 2: You can try switching you skin from Monaco to monobook in your preferences. Monobook is a less advanced and simpler skin compared Monaco. It should speed up your page loading.-Chosen OneSo the Prophecy says... 16:15, May 18, 2010 (UTC)
    • I made the skin change, and also took advantage of the fact that I use Firefox to Adblock the Twilight ad on the main page. Things do seem to be moving more quickly now. Thanks for the help.--Pinata (Talk) 16:51, May 18, 2010 (UTC)

Per ITCO. I apologize for the inconvenience, but I'm sure you can understand that we can't really design the main page around the very rarely used dial up. =( - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 16:21, May 18, 2010 (UTC)

  • Not sure what ITCO is, but yes, I do understand.--Pinata (Talk) 16:51, May 18, 2010 (UTC)

ITCO is I'm the Chosen One, the user who first replied to you above. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 16:54, May 18, 2010 (UTC)

Random Message - This is ridiculous...[]

I'm trying to make a well-refined, organized article about a Hutt (not revealing his name XD). I type in anything related to Hutts and fortunately find a bunch of articles. As I'm trying to find a good character picture for this Hutt, I open up as many of the articles as I can. And what happens? THEY'RE ALL STUBS! What?! Not a single one includes a picture. And they're all by different people.

Is there ANY good Hutt character picture on this site? I'd look if I knew any other way, but I don't. MastahCheef117 (Talk) 16:22, July 4, 2010 (UTC)

  • This best place to go for images like that is actually Wookieepedia, because they're the comprehensive Star Wars encyclopedia. You can try here. - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 16:29, July 4, 2010 (UTC)

Why?[]

Why is there rules about how your fanon should be place out, It would funner (if it is a word) if we can just make it ourselves and only getting help when we ask for it (Save spelling and grammar). Alertfiend (Talk) 04:37, November 1, 2010 (UTC)

  • Sorry no one noticed this message earlier. People often think "fanon" means "do whatever you want." From an in-universe perspective, we agree with that; no matter how silly a story may be, people have the right to write that story. From a policy, formatting, spelling, proper grammar, etc. standpoint, the community has voted to have policies like the Manual of Style. This doesn't restrict what you write (we do have a content policy, though, talking about extreme things like excess violence, sex, etc), it just organizes what you write into encyclopedic format, similar to Wookieepedia. I hope that helps clarify the policy for you! =) - Brandon Rhea Alliance Starbird (talk) 17:48, December 11, 2010 (UTC)

lol i was hit by a car and in the hospital for most of the time got back the day you posted anyway i do know what you meant but not really are you just suggesting it Alertfiend (Talk) 04:54, December 21, 2010 (UTC) sorry for no question mark arms broken still

What? No April Fool's day pranks? No Mary Sue Fanon Wiki? No unscrewing the salt shakers? (dont tell my family about that last one, hehe.) No short-sheeting the bed? (Don't tell my dog about that one, lol) None of tha mumbo jumbo about things that happened an impossibly long time ago for that good of technology in a galaxy so far away it doesn't exist? oh, yeah... that's kinda what we're about... Happy April Fools Day!Gnost-Dural| Hands off the holocrons, THEY'RE MINE!! 12:11, April 1, 2011 (UTC)

What's happened?[]

All the pages look odd, the infoboxes take up like half to most of the page and push all the text into a tight column, what's happened? "They say God invented Whisky to stop the Irish from rulin' the world!" - Irish 08:34, May 24, 2012 (UTC)Phthinosuchusisanancestor

ARTICLES[]

Outdated Front Page[]

Is there any reason as to why the Geist Weiss and Calid Baatch pages are still featured on the front page, or why the "Quote of the Week" hasn't changed, for however many years? I swear, if I don't stay in my own little pocket of articles here I start to notice how sloppy and outdated really major parts of this site (like the very important front page, for example) feel, as if quality really doesn't matter. Do the admins need help maintaining this place?--Mythic [Talk] [Contribs] 22:02, January 15, 2018 (UTC)

  • Have those articles become worse in hindsight, or do they still represent a good standard of creativity and quality? And users are free to nominate and vote for Quotes of the Week here; quotes don't nominate or vote for themselves... SakarosTalk 22:43, January 15, 2018 (UTC)
  • In all honesty, I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish with this post. If you have an idea, please feel free to share. Star Wars Fanon is about the community first and foremost, but you've only provided vague complaints. The fact of the matter is, people haven't been interested in participating in stuff like QotW for some time, and, yes, the main page reflects that. Ultimately, it depends on what you mean by "maintaining this place." I'm not going to just throw up quotes onto the main page willy nilly. Nor am I going to force people to vote. I could put new articles into the box slider, but, since people haven't done much with FAs, it would end up being arbitrary choices by me; I'm flattered that you seem to think my choices would constitute an improved quality, but I personally don't much see a point in unilaterally picking new articles. If many users wanted it, I suppose I might, but you're the first person (that I recall) to bring it up. I'm more than happy to hear more of your thoughts on this matter, but I hope my position is now clearer. Cheers! Savage1138 23:07, January 15, 2018 (UTC)
    • What I'm trying to accomplish here is to have the administration build interest and community in the wiki. No one is telling you to unilaterally change anything. Literally just promote communal competitions and cooperation through a blog post or communtiy messages rather than just saying "oh well" without either replacing it with something new or removing it from the main page to let people know it's an abandoned concept. I haven't seen any attempts at community building from the people who are supposed to be doing that here—that's an atypical issue for a site like this...--Mythic [Talk] [Contribs] 00:10, January 16, 2018 (UTC)
      • With all due respect, you must not be looking too hard. A look at the Community corner history should easily lead you to the yearly Wiki Awards. You'll notice I personally cohosted the Tenth and Eleventh Wiki Awards—community events which went on despite only eight (8) and four (4) people voting in them respectively. I don't think anyone could be blamed for, as you say, "just saying 'oh well'" at that point. However, that was not the case. This discussion thread is my gauging of interest in continuing with the Wiki Awards. In the spirit of community, I pushed for new blood to host as well. And, in fact, I think the Twelfth Wiki Awards were largely successful. While we're on the subject of the Wiki Awards, I'll direct you to this discussion thread. Specifically, I'd encourage you to read the very last post, from Atarumaster88. One of his main points is that community is best created by people "hanging out" together, as it were. I spend a lot of time in the Chatroom. Anyone is welcome to join there. But I can't force that. I've continued the Wiki Awards, but I can't force anyone to vote. I post community messages, but I can't force anyone to read or react to them. So you'll have to forgive me if I find the advice "literally just promote communal competitions and cooperation through a blog post or communtiy [sic] messages" to not actually be offering much in the way of new ideas. But again, should you have suggestions, I'm willing to entertain them. Savage1138 01:22, January 16, 2018 (UTC)
      • I'd like to point you to Goodwood's comments here. "Star Wars Fanon was never a community—nor could it have ever been a community—in the sense of Wookieepedia or some other well-known and high-traffic wiki. This is not a community. This is a repository." Fundamentally, this is a place where users store their personal fanon. The vast majority of users are solely interested in their own little universes and have no interest in anything community related. It doesn't matter how many community events you host. If there's no interest, nothing will happen. The thread I linked is the perfect illustration of that—an administration-backed short story contest meant to bring together the community that fell flat on its face because of a lack of interest. I've been around here a long time and I've seen (and read about) a lot of attempts to kickstart the community, and none of them have ever worked. Sebolto (talk) 01:53, January 16, 2018 (UTC)
