Tagruato was a remote oceanic world located in the Inner Rim. It was inhabited by Tagruatians, the most famous and prominent of which was William Octoward. It had a relatively low level of technology and civilization, meaning that it was very obscure and rarely visited. During the end days of the Galactic Republic, it was ruled by an oppressive fascist regime, resulting in many Tagruatians immigrating offworld. By the time of the Galactic Empire, this regime had collapsed, and by the New Republic, Tagruto had commenced trade with many worlds, and its technology rate intensified dramatically. By the time of the New Empire, it was a fairly rich and influential world.

Tagruato is named for the fictional Japanese company in the mythology of the movie Cloverfield.
