TIE pilots, also called Imperial pilots, TIE fighter pilots and "bucketheads" by Rebels, were the elite personnel in the Imperial Navy that were trained to pilot various spacecraft for the Galactic Empire. Trained at the Imperial Navy Training Center, about 40% of applicants passed training and became pilots. Others were simply reassigned to other roles, such as Navy troopers, gunners, and crewmen.
