Rise of the Empire eraRebellion eraNew Republic era

I believe Order 66 was among the best events to occur in our galaxy. The corrupt and cowardly Jedi were eliminated almost completely. I regret that I was not more persistent to the Emperor when I asked to take part in the Great Purge. This time, I will not fail.
—Grand Admiral Sulev Vondar, 11 ABY

Sulev Vondar was a naval officer who served the fleets of the Galactic Republic and the Galactic Empire before becoming a Grand Admiral in the Dark Empire of the reborn Emperor Palpatine. A native of Anaxes, he came from a family of navy men. At age seventeen Vondar joined one of the planet's many naval academies, becoming a lieutenant as the Clone Wars broke out. Surviving the conflict and becoming a captain, he was one of the first officers of the Imperial Navy that was formed in 19 BBY, when the Republic became the Empire. Under the new regime, he served against the Separatist holdouts, destroying most of them while displaying excellent tactics and strategy. For this, he was promoted to admiral. By the time the Galactic Civil War broke out, Vondar reached the rank of High Admiral. Throughout the conflict he saw little action due to roles as the commander of defense fleets.

After the deaths of the Emperor and Darth Vader at Endor in 4 ABY, he remained loyal to the central government, unlike many of his comrades. For this loyalty, he was awarded command of the Executor-class Star Destroyer Megador, along with a fleet of ten Imperial-class Star Destroyers. Vondar used it to pacify rebellious systems and go on offensives against the advancing New Republic. For his loyalty and tactical genius, he was among the six officers elevated to the rank of Grand Admiral in 10 ABY by the reborn Palpatine.

Biography[]

Early life and Republic career[]

Born to a military family on Anaxes, a planet with a naval tradition itself, Vondar attended one of the academies there. He showed much promise to the instructors, demonstrating a good knowledge of tactics and strategy. By the time he graduated, the Clone Wars broke out between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, and he received a lieutenant's commission in the Republic Navy. He fought valiantly during the conflict, and stated once to another officer that he had no respect for the Jedi Order, because it seemed to him that they hid behind their crewmen and clone troopers. But Vondar was still loyal to the Republic, and in 19 BBY, following the Battle of Coruscant, was promoted to the rank of captain for his actions. For the several days leading up to the Declaration of the New Order, Vondar commanded a Venator-class Star Destroyer.

In the Emperor's Service[]

That year, the Republic was reformed into the Galactic Empire, and Palpatine became the Emperor. Vondar was delighted when he heard that the Jedi were mostly wiped out in Order 66. As a captain in the Imperial Navy, he asked to be given the role of locating and eliminating remaining Jedi, but the Emperor declined, knowing that Darth Vader would be better for the job. Over the next several years, Vondar took part in actions against the Separatist holdouts, neutralizing the remainder of the Separatist movement in the Outer Rim Territories. His tactical and strategic skills were noticed, and he was promoted to the rank of admiral. Many expected that he would be among Palpatine's top commanders who were elevated to the Grand Admiral rank in 2 BBY, but surprisingly to Vondar, he was not. However, around that time, his skills were still not forgotten, and he was promoted to High Admiral.
