Strill Squadron was a Mandalorian mercenary starfighter squadron. It was named after the strill, a species of six-legged hound native to Mandalore.

Description[]

Strill Squadron consisted of nine Fang-class starfighters, one Z-95 Headhunter starfighter, and two Pursuer-class enforcement ships. There were twelve pilots, as well as a handful of additional crewmen stationed aboard the two Pursuer ships. While the Fang fighters engaged in dogfights with enemy starfighters, the Pursuer ships were used to carry prisoners and supplies, and provide air support to allied ground forces.

History[]

Formed following the outbreak of the Clone Wars, Strill Squadron was formed by a group of Old Mandalorians and one former Judicial Forces pilot (who piloted the squadron's sole Headhunter). During the war, Strill Squadron was contracted to fight for the Confederacy of Independent Systems, participating in numerous space battles against the Republic Navy. The squadron had a high success rate during the war, not losing a single member. Following the war, Strill Squadron continued serving the various Separatist holdouts; after deciding fighting for the holdouts was no longer profitable, the squadron went on to fight for various criminal organizations such as the Black Sun. The squadron also dabbled in smuggling, using their two Pursuer ships to carry the contraband.

Eventually, Strill Squadron returned to the Mandalore sector to take up arms against the Imperial presence there, joining many other Mandalorian units who rose up against the Empire. During this time, Strill Squadron's ex-Judicial Forces pilot defected to the Imperial Starfighter Corps, being placed in command of an elite TIE Interceptor squadron. The squadron once more briefly left the sector to serve the Rebel Alliance before returning to fight the Empire under Bo-Katan Kryze's resistance movement until the Great Purge of Mandalore, during which the squadron was entirely wiped out by their former comrade's own squadron.
