To err is natural, but to rectify error is glory.
—The motto of the High Priests.[src]

The High Priests were a group of users that read over, checked and reviewed good article nominations, as well as oversaw good articles to ensure they were up to standards, before voting as to whether or not good article status should be given to an article. The High Priests reviewed and gave constructive criticism for articles until they were fixed up to meet good article requirements, and once those criticisms were rectified then the High Priests voted on whether or not the article should have become a good article. In order to become a good article, at least four High Priests must have approved, along with ten general community voters.

Good articles were checked over by the High Priests periodically to ensure that they still warranted the status that it was given. If the article did not warrant keeping its good article status, a majority vote of the High Priests could have stripped it of the status and make it a formerly good article. The article could have regained its status only after the complaints of the High Priests had been corrected and it was approved on the nominations track once again. It should be noted that the only good articles the High Priests would review were those that were not featured articles at the same time, as it was assumed that if the article was a featured article then it was well beyond good article standards. At the time of the dissolution of the High Priests, Star Wars Fanon had seven former good articles compared to nearly one hundred good articles.

History[]

The High Priests were formed in Summer 2007[1] by a community vote after it was suggested that a board oversee good articles much like the Decreton Lords oversaw the featured articles. A meeting on #swfanon between numerous members of the Wiki concluded that Brandon Rhea, CurrentBigThing, Darth tader, Gnosis is knowledge and Jedi Master 76 would be the first members of this board. After their approval, the group decided to call themselves the High Priests, based on the rank of Bendu High Priest in the article titled Bendu Order. The name was chosen because, unlike the Decreton Lords who would relentlessly strike down those seeking glory, the Bendu High Priests would peacefully and quietly pass judgment on those seeking further power and potential. This was reflective of the fact that the High Priests did not originally have the ability to prevent an article from becoming a good article, which was changed later.[3]

In late 2008, it was decided to merge the High Priests and their Decreton Lord counterparts into one group that would oversee good article and featured article nominations. This made the group larger, the original number being nine members, which gave it more of an ability to properly oversee the two nomination tracks. The group became known as the Council of Seers and was officially founded on September 25, 2008, the same date that the High Priests disbanded.[2]

Responsibilities[]

The responsibilities of the members of the Star Wars Fanon High Priests were as follows:

  1. Review every major article that is nominated for good article status
  2. If the majority (four) of the High Priests agree, they can prevent a nomination from becoming a good article. This will be done only if the article fails to meet good article standards yet is nominated anyway. This is the only reason that the High Priests can overturn community consensus.
  3. Hold a review of the good articles that have not become featured articles. If they feel that an article is no longer up to good article standards, they can make it a "formerly good article". This can only be done if said article is not already a featured article.

Good Article nominations[]

Unlike featured article nominations, general members were able to vote on good article nominations alongside the High Priests. Once an article became a good article, the entire nomination would be archived into a page in the High Priest name space. The archived reviews can be found below. If the majority of High Priests did not believe that an article was deserving of good article status, then despite the number of general members in favor of it the article would not become a good article. If there was a long list of complaints that the author did not appear to be addressing, then regardless of the reasons the review in its entirety would be archived and would become a "rejected nomination". Those review archives can also be found below.

Members of the board[]

The six High Priests at the time of the disbanding of the board had all been chosen by a vote from the entire Star Wars Fanon community and could be removed through the same means. The final six members of the board are as follows:

High Priests that had retired before the disbanding of the board include C3PO the Dragon Slayer, CurrentBigThing, Darth tader, Dexington, Jack Phoenix, Pinky49 and Solus.

Voting archives[]

The following pages are all archived High Priest and general voting discussions of good article nominees. The following are listed in alphabetical order:

Rejected nominations[]

The following list is an archive of rejected good article nominations. If for whatever reason the author(s) of a good article nominee became inactive or they ignored their nomination and the objections of the High Priests and objections remained uncorrected for a total of one month, the article would be removed from the nominations list and moved to the list of rejected nominations. Once the author returned or decided to once again work on their article, they could re-nominate the article if they intended to correct the objections. The list that follows contains the rejected nominations:

Status removal[]

If you are the author of an article and have been redirected here from said article, then the article in question has had its good article status revoked by a majority vote of the High Priests. If you wish to appeal the removal, then please leave a note on the talk page of one of the now-members of the Council of Seers. Once any changes have been made to rectify the short comings pointed out by the High Priests, you may renominate the article so the community and the Council of Seers can look over it.
