Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones is the second chapter of the Star Wars film saga and the fifth released into theaters, opening in 2002. It is preceded chronologically by Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace and followed by Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. The film was written and directed by George Lucas.

The film centers around the Separatist Crisis, in the immediate lead up to the galaxy-spanning Clone Wars. Against the backgrop are Obi-Wan Kenobi's investigation of a mysterious clone army on Kamino, and the love story between Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala. The film ends with the Battle of Geonosis which launched the Clone Wars, and the marriage of Skywalker and Amidala.

The film was released in 2002 and has gone on to be released in VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray multiple times throughout the 2000s and 2010s. It was scheduled for another theatical re-release in 2013, this time in 3D, but the release was canceled by The Walt Disney Company after its acquisition of Lucasfilm Ltd.
