Star Wars Episode I: The Saga Begins is an upcoming fanfilm by Andrew Barton. It will be the first episode of The Star Wars, an alternate Star Wars saga. It is currently scheduled for release in 2009. According to Barton, the plot is mostly finished. The visuals for the characters will be based on Hasbro action figures with live-action elements.
In one of Barton's blog entries, he stated that in the story, Anakin Skywalker is a soldier in the Republic Army rather than a slave on Tatooine; Obi-Wan is already a Jedi Knight by the beginning and does not travel with any other Jedi; and that Manaan, replacing Naboo, and Utapau, replacing Tatooine, will be featured.
Development[]
The story was announced by writer Andrew Barton in July of 2008, originally planned to be written as a novel. Its title was announced in September, and Barton decided to write it in script format in December. Barton announced some information for the story on May 2, 2009.
The plot went through major changes as more drafts were written. Originally, Anakin Skywalker was to have escaped from slavery on Tatooine,[2] and was to have joined an organization called the Shadow Academy on the same world, before it was decided that he join the Republic Army.[2]
Previously, Barton had hoped to release it in Fall of 2008.
