Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: Fall of the Empire - Returning Home is the fourth and final expansion to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: Fall of the Empire. Returning Home tells the story of the Dark Hero's final adventure, in which he returns to Dromund Kaas to confront the Emperor, one last time. Before doing so, the Dark Hero revisits past companions one final time to say farewell.

Outline[]

Unlike you, I am not afraid to die. In fact, I welcome it. And that is something you will never understand because you are nothing more than a coward. And when your death eventually does come, I'll be waiting for you.
—The Dark Hero's final speech to the Emperor.

The story begins on Coruscant and Khar Shain. Then the player must travel to three different worlds: Ashas Ree, Ch'hodos, and Korriz to collect items needed for a ritual. After collecting two, the player will be captured and taken to Dromund Fel and must escape, fighting the Dread Master's apprentice along the way. After killing the apprentice, the player can collect Revan's mask from the apprentice's remains. With all items, the player returns to Dromund Kaas; where the endgame is set. The player must take the three items to a group of Sith Lords, and optionally, revisit the player's original companions. When the player is ready to begin the endgame, they must head towards the Imperial Citadel. Here, they must fight their way to the throne room, where Scourge awaits. After him, the player will be immediately transported to the Dark Temple, where they fight more Sith Lords and ultimately the Dread Masters and the Sith Emperor.

Once the Sith Emperor is defeated, there are lengthy and detailed epilogue segments that show the fates of various companions and worlds. There are no alignment-based endings this time around.

Plot summery[]

You have touched so many lives. More then you know. They will always remember you and love you. But now, it is time for you to fade into the stars. Because now, your story is over.
—The Dark Hero recalling Darth Exitium's final words to him.

Beginning of the end[]

One month after the events of Fallen Heroes, the prologue has the Dark Hero returning to Coruscant to speak with Naresha, informing her on his plans to stop the Emperor, and warning her of a coming war, that Darth Exitium had mentioned. The Dark Hero and Naresha are suddenly attacked by spies from the Emperor and nearly killed, but both the Dark Hero and Naresha survive the skirmish. After meeting with Naresha, the Dark Hero departs, with her and HK-47, and sets off to the Sith world, Khar Shain.

With the help of the Sith cult located there, the Dark Hero gains information on two important items, needed for a ritual, each located on a different planet: Ashas Ree, Ch'hodos, Korriz, and Ziost. If Darth Xnoir was not killed in the original Fall of the Empire campaign, he returns to aid the Dark Hero on his quest.

Ashas Ree[]

Ashas Ree is an ancient Sith world that where the Sith King Ada's, previously ruled his empire. And even thousands of years later, the legacy of his empire still remained. After exploring the graveyard ruins of Ada's Empire, the Dark Hero locates one of the needed ritual items.

Ch'hodos[]

Ch'hodos is a Sith world that was once ruled by the ancient Sith Empire. The Dark Hero traveled and explored the massive, but also the decaying building was known as The Great Chamber. It is within the palace, the Hero locates his ritual item.

Korriz[]

Korriz is a Sith world similar to Tatooine and Korriban. The Dark Hero traveled to the abandoned cave mines and followed the path to locate the ritual item deep underground, where secret Force relics are hidden. A unique and rare powerful lightsaber crystal is founded here.

Dromund Fels[]

After traveling to two of the worlds, the Dark Hero and his companions are captured by an apprentice of the Dread Masters and taken to a secret base on Dromund Fels. The Dark Hero and the others escape, however, and kill the apprentice shortly before escaping. The Hero also receives Revan's mask from the apprentice's corpse, much to HK's surprise.

The return and finale[]

After collecting all ritual items, the Dark Hero finally returns to his home, Dromund Kaas.

After arriving, the Dark Hero tells HK-47 to take the Night Vulture and leave. The Dark Hero meets up with an underground group of Sith Lords who are a part of the same cult as the ones from Khar Shain. After telling them of his plans and giving them the ritual items, the Dark Hero travels around Kaas City one last time to visit his original companions and say goodbye.

With all loose ends tied up, the Dark Hero fights his way inside the Imperial Citadel and has a face-off against Lord Scourge. Scourge, tells him about the vision of the Jedi Knight he saw that will strike down the Emperor. The Dark Hero, not sure on whether to believe it or not, gives him the benefit of the doubt. Regardless, it was too late to turn back now. Scourge then tells him the Emperor is with the Dread Masters, in the Dark Temple.

After dealing with Scourge, the Dark Hero went to the temple and confronted the Dread Masters. After fighting through them, the Dark Hero made his way to the temple's core, where the Emperor awaited for him. The Emperor reveals this was the same chamber where he reincarnated the Dark Hero. In a final battle, the Dark Hero encountered the Emperor, ending with the Dark Hero committing suicide--causing a deep wound in the Force for the Emperor. The Dark Hero's body is vaporized by a flash of Force energy shortly thereafter.

Afterward, the Dread Masters come and see the Emperor laying in pain. Meanwhile, on Mandalore, Naresha tells the aging Canderous of the war the Dark Hero warned her about, and that they should be ready. An epilogue segment plays out where the fate of various characters are revealed, such as HK-47 (now captain of the Ebon Hawk), the Jedi Order, the Sith Cultists, Scarlet, and Byron.

Behind the scenes[]

The title, Returning Home, is a reference not only to the main character's return to Dromund Kaas but also is used as a symbolic meaning to the main character's return to the Force.

Returning Home serves as the finale to the Fall of the Empire video game, the Dark Hero's character-arc overall.

In the alternative neutral and dark paths, HK-47 may not be around as a companion. If the player killed all the Sith cultists on Khar Delba in the original game, the Sith cultists in this one will reference it, possibly attacking the player should they admit on committing the act, or simply just by being hostile.
