Comparison to Original Jedi Knight Series[]

In gameplay, Jedi Extinction most resembles Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. The weapon seletion in the game is a lot more limited than the other games, expecting a much more extensive use of the Jedi lightsaber. Weapons such as the imperial repeater and the sequencer charge reappear in the game as usable weapons, and the ion beam rifle and heavy assualt rifle are introduced for the first time.

Like Dark Forces II and Jedi Academy, the game also allows the player to choose to follow the canon light side story or an alternative darkside ending mid-game. If the player chooses the darkside, instead of sacrificing the life of Sadar and Sora, defeating Argan, and restoring the order, Vrabou kills Sadar himself, defeats Argan, saves Sora, and takes the Empire himself. Vrabou unintentionally kills Sora in the end as well.

This is the second game in the Jedi Knight series where Kyle Katarn is not a playable character. Although he is a significant part of the story, he only appears once in a recorded hologram left for Vrabou.

The usable force powers resemble mostly from the Dark Forces II and Mysteries of the Sith games. The two special powers, Force Protection and Force Deadlysight are the top powers for either side that is chosen.

The other big difference in Jedi Extinction overall is the existence of three bonus levels that are unlocked each time the game is completed by difficulty. The levels include Vrabou's Jedi training on Ossus in 47 ABY, Kyle Katarn's mission to an imperial base during the Great Jedi Genocide in 48 ABY, and Argans domination over Luke Skywalker and his academy in 49 ABY.
