Star Wars: The Dark Times: Betrayal is the first epsiode, or book, in the Dark Times Saga. It is to feature three parts, making up the whole story arc. Currently Part One is what is finished. Betrayal is currently bieng written by Clonehunter.
Plot[]
Part 1[]
Part One quickly opens up with characters Talon Karrde, Jax Coney, and Mancubi, facing each other in a blaster stand off. Jax describes how he was told to find and kill Karrde by his boss Dike Mooney, a smuggling 'king' of the Gran species (even though that is not directly mentioned in the story anywhere.). Jax believes that Karrde is working as an agent for the new Galactic Empire, attempting to undermine Mooney's smuggling empire. Karrde denies any of it, saying Jax is mis lead. Mancubi for the whole time remains basically silent. However, Jax, with the ability to read the thoughts of others through thier eyes, grows suspicious of his olde partner Mancubi. Before anything else, the three are attacked by Clone troopers, but the skirmish quickly ends, with Clones all dead. Mancubi is quickly contacted by an Imperial Officer, asking whether Mancubi had killed Karrde or Jax yet, informing that both are smuggling illicit material from the Empire. Jax and Karrde disarm Mancubi, who quickly escapes with a star fighter, leaving the other two to fight for themselves against Clones and cave creatures.
Devolpment[]
The books 'cover' art actually contains two images from the popular video game "DOOM". The character on the left (Portraying Jax Coney), is the Doom Marine as seen on the Sony Playstation cover art for the game. The far right character (Mancubi) is a piece of cover art from the box of the PC version of the game. Also, Mancubi's name is play off the word Mancubus, an enemy from DOOM II. Mancubi's species, Helron, is also a play on the word Baron of Hell, the boss enemy at the end of the first chapter in DOOM. Mancubi's starfighter, the Knight of Hell is Hell Knight 'backwards', with 'of' thrown between them. Hell Knights were enemies from DOOM III.
