Star Wars… 007 Style began as a series of text-based role playing games on the TheForce.Net Role Playing Forum where the players served as agents or antagonists of MI5, the Secret Galactic Intelligence Service. Six years after the series' creation, creator Dubya Scott decided to move the series into fan fiction that he would write himself.
History[]
The game series was created by TheForce.Net Forum's user Dubya_Scott and inspired by the James Bond film series. It was not intended to be a cross-over, but more of a story in the Star Wars Universe that had a Bond film style (hence the "007 Style" in the series title).
The games possibly are better known for centering around mowing down hordes of bad guys rather than spying and espionage. Even so, it still became popular among the Users in TheForce.Net Role Playing Forum.
The main core group of TheForce.Net users who played in most or all of the games had become close friends in the Forums. They came to call themselves the "007 Family". Currently, there are only a few of those "family" members still active in the Forums.
After a hiatus in the series, Dubya Scott announced (on December 20, 2010) that a new game was in the works and would begin after the New Year. According to a teaser trailer he created, the new game was to take place during the Clone Wars.
Part of the way through 2011, Dubya Scott saw the players in the Licence To Clone game losing interest and dropping out. It was then that he decided to turn the series into fan fiction instead, beginning with the first MI5 Chronicles short story Escape from the Dragon's Jaws. The first full-length fanfic in the 007 Style series he wrote was Muunraker.
Original Idea[]
The 007 Style is a series of James Bond style fan fiction stories about Star Wars characters set in the Star Wars universe. In late 2011, while the 007 Style's Casino Royale RPG was being played, Dark Horse Comics published Star Wars: Agent of the Empire which has been hailed as the canon "James Bond meets Star Wars" comic book. Dubya Scott's 007 Style series is in no way inspired by Agent of the Empire.
The first 007 Style RPG, From Ryloth With Love, appeared in TheForce.net's Jedi Council Role-Playing Forum nearly 7 years before Agent of the Empire was published. Though Dubya Scott can't officially take credit for the Dark Horse comic, he did in fact come up with a "James Bond meets Star Wars" idea long before the comic's writer John Ostrander, who has actually posted in the Jedi Council Forums at TheForce.net. Coincidence?
It's unknown whether or not the 007 Style games had any influence on Agent of the Empire.
