Major Alana Walden: “Wait, these are Corellian diamonds..
Anxan Minor: “Lon thinks they're stashing more of them in the Citadel. It could be the rest from the siege, they want to call it in.
Major Alana Walden: “Chaos be damned, they'll pay in blood for this. Permission granted lieutenant.

Major Walden being presented a recovered cache of soul diamonds lost during the Corellian crisis

Soul diamonds, also known as Corellian diamonds, were diamonds forged from the ashes of deceased Corellians as part of long-standing Corellian traditions originating since the advent of the first Corellian hyperdrive. When a Corellian relative passed away, their remains would be cremated and then the ashes would be compressed down into a diamond. The diamonds were often given to surviving family members, if none were available then the diamond would be sent to a soul sanctuary where it'd be housed safely in respects to the deceased's memory.

Aside from embedding them into family heirlooms, it was common practice to mount soul diamonds onto repulsorlift displays. Some Corellians believed in the afterlife they were given wings to roam their new found existence with grace without the hinderance of the limitations brought on by regular starfighters.

Soul diamonds were occasionally known to lean towards the color red during the forging process. As rare as it is, this was the prime indicator that the diamond would ultimately crack and even collapse on itself before the process could be completed. Instead of blaming the sacred specialized forgers charged with the process, most Corellians believed that the deceased in question didn't want to be encased or had committed a great sin that left the soul so tormented that they couldn't find peace within themselves.

History[]

During the formation of the Galactic Constitution, in recognition of the Corellian people's large role in the founding of the Galactic Republic, a clause was embedded as per Corellia's request to make it illegal to destroy or sell a Corellian soul diamond. It was considered by many of it's people to be a greater crime then murder and slavery and a greater tragedy then death itself. Even if the perpetrator was outside of Corellian jurisdiction, Cor-Sec was known to go as far as Wild Space to incarcerate any violators of this particular law.

After Queen Ana'marade e Solo's death, she was cremated and compressed into a soul diamond that'd be given to her firstborn daughter as per Corellian tradition. The daughter embedded it into a necklace and vowed to never be separated from her mother ever again. At some point the diamond necklace would be lost and was considered a great tragedy by the Corellian monarchy and people. During King Kaahas e Solo's reign, the necklace would be rediscovered on the planet of Carlac by an unidentified female individual who presented him this along with two other "great spectacles".
