I personally don't care for the squabbles between the Sith and the Jedi. In fact, I have no quarrel with the Jedi in any form... I only care about the securing the Empire... and I am willing to join the Galactic Alliance in order to preserve it.
—Solei Levantis
Solei Levantis, also known as Darth Faytoll, was a female Korun Sith Warrior-turned Sith Lord around the time of the Second Galactic Civil War. By killing her master in a lightsaber duel to save her Jedi boyfriend Kymon Raas, Solei had christened herself Darth Faytoll, Dark Lady of the Sith. However, she was different from most Sith in terms of personality.
Biography[]
Born on Tatooine to her mother, Mee-La, and an unknown Korun father, Solei Levantis was raised on Tatooine as a miner and weapon smith. Unbeknownst to the young women, she possessed a powerful connection to the Dark Side of the Force. At the young age of twelve, Solei became more aware of her connection after she had unknowingly Force-choked her mother in anger.
Early life[]
Life On Tatooine[]
After inadvertently causing her mother and her half-brother's deaths with a Force scream during a Sand People raid, Solei had left her home in the Dune Sea and moved to Mos Eisley Spaceport at the age of eighteen. She eventually found work as a droid salvager. During her time at said job, Solei's Force abilities had grown, being able to put together the remnants of the former CIS IG-100 MagnaGuard droid, IG-102. After which, Solei was discovered by a Kel'Dor Sith Lord in disguise by the name of Darth Carnage. During a brief fight of the lightsaber and Echani vibrosword, Darth Carnage defeated Solei, then took her on as his apprentice.
Career[]
Beginnings as a Sith Warrior[]
Before she began her career as a Sith Warrior, Solei was born into a family of weapon-smiths and miners. For the longest time since she was young, Solei learned how to differentiate between certain types of metal and ore. She also learned how to upgrade her weaponry. Solei was also a fan of particular metals such as the naturally growing energized metal known as cortosis, which she would later use to create her own suit of Sith battle armor.
Upon becoming a Sith Warrior, Solei was one of a few of Carnage's apprentices in-training. As a Sith, Solei quickly became a well-established combatant, being able to channel her anger and using it as energy to fuel her attacks and augment her superhuman strength. However, during her training, there were attempts on her life by the other apprentices that came to recognize her as a threat. With her Master's training, Solei was able to kill all of them. Although she would note in a conversation with her boyfriend Kymon that she hoped that she wouldn't have to kill any more of them. It was also particularly brutal for her, as she had taken a shine to one of them at the time. Within time, Solei became a very accomplished Sith Warrior.
Retrieving Holocrons[]
During her training, Solei was given several missions to retrieve particular Jedi and Sith Holocrons that contained several knowledge about a articular super-weapon that her Master wanted. The first location she was to go to was Mustafar, into the abandoned ruins of an old Jedi Temple that still stood on the fiery blackened shores. Upon exiting hyperspace to a space battle happening far above the red planet, Solei and her forces slipped through the space battle in order to land on Mustafar. Once on the ground, the Sith Warrior was accompanied by Delta Shadow, an elite group of Imperial Storm Commandos. Fighting through several New Republic ground forces and heavy resistance, Solei and Delta Shadow managed to locate the Jedi Temple. With Imperial reinforcements at her back, Solei and the Storm Commando squad made their way through the Temple, traversing through the many chambers. During which she had managed to obtain the holocron that her Master wanted, one of Delta Shadow nearly fell victim to a trap within as the Council Chamber floor began to unsettle, due to the tectonic shifting of Mustafar's volcanic underworld. As the group escaped the collapsing Temple, they were met with a young Jedi Guardian named Kymon Raas with his orange-bladed Crossguard lightsaber in hand.
Waving off Delta Shadow to get the holocron to her shuttle, Solei stayed to engage the Jedi in a lightsaber duel. Their duel was fast and ferocious. Both Solei and Kymon were well-versed practitioners of Form V lightsaber combat. However, as the duel continued over to the river of lava where Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi once dueled, both combatants began to see each other as formidable duelists. Kymon himself commended her on her use of Form V, also stating that it was a shame that she was fighting for the wrong side. Solei put the same comments to him as they fought. As the duel reached its climax, Kymon and Solei found themselves fighting on a bridge over the lava river. Using her own inherent superhuman strength, the Sith Warrior managed to score a hit on the Jedi Guardian's shoulder, scorching it with her own violet-bladed lightsaber and cutting into his armor. Wounded and embarrassed, Kymon had made a full retreat, but Solei did not choose to pursue him. However, when one of Delta Shadow had attempted to snipe the Jedi, Solei had ordered them to let him go, stating that she would see him again and that they already had what they came for.
Months later on in the Vongified ruins of the Jedi Praxeum of Yavin 4, Solei was dispatched by Carnage to retrieve the last bit of data on an important super-weapon. Once she managed to retrieve the holocron containing the data, Solei was once again confronted by Kymon again.
Ascension to Darth Faytoll[]
Aside from her Master's training, Solei found solace and relief in helping to serve the Galactic Empire. While she was very mindful of how it operated, Solei believed that the Empire helped give her a newer purpose in both her life and in the Force. If anything, she believed that the rulers within it should change their policies. The primary attribute of the Empire that Solei didn't care for was the treatment of non-Human species as second-class citizens. Being a native of Tatooine where all walks of life come and go, Solei never held such hatred for non-Human species. She even went as far as to execute any Imperials who brought harm to aliens under her command. Regardless, Solei continued to stay by the Empire, even allowing her own army in the Empire to become part of the Galactic Alliance.
Personality and traits[]
Most of the time, Solei can be cold, vengeful, and angry like any other Sith. However, she is capable of showing extreme calm and mercy to an enemy that’s already beaten and will even grant a valiant opponent a warrior’s death. If anyone were to look at her, they can see the anger in Solei's eyes behind a facial mask of collective calm.
Despite her anger, Solei is always willing to talk with those close to her. Even at social events, she likes to meet new people and celebrate. At times, Solei can be quite flirty and forward with men and/or women she finds attractive.
In combat, she can be quite serious. However, Solei is not above goading her enemy. At times, when she is engaged in a lightsaber duel against a male Jedi, Solei can create an opening by having situational awareness (i.e. loose floorboard, electrical hazard, etc.). She’ll even use her feminine charms to take advantage of an opponent. Solei also tries to help any wounded comrade she can.
Solei is very passionate and aggressive about fighting. She often gets stimulation out of fighting an opponent that she sees as formidable.
Despite her rage, some Jedi who have come across her believe that she’s not too entwined with the Dark Side. Unlike some Sith, Solei does possess a voice of reason. She does not betray those who help her (or whom she helps) and she does not like killing or harming animals (although she does show some dislike for creatures that are considered pests, like mynocks and womprats).
She also has a certain liking for learning about Sith and Jedi history. Solei also likes learning about Force-sensitives who served the Jedi and Sith, one of her personal favorites being Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader.
Powers and abilities[]
Lightsaber Combat & Martial Arts[]
Prior to becoming a Sith Warrior, Solei was already a very skilled swordswoman. Most of her skill was honed from her fights against the creatures of Tatooine and against the seedy denizens of Mos Eisley Spaceport. Her brother even noted her for being a better close-quarters combatant than himself, who preferred ranged combat. Darth Carnage even noted her to exhibit the skills of a natural warrior and a Force-sensitive, despite her lack of training in the Force.
She was also even noted to have superhuman strength behind her physical blows and sword strikes. On one occasion, Solei had punched a bounty hunter so hard that his jaw got knocked off by the impact. Whether this strength is from the Force or not is currently unknown.
Being trained in the ways of a Sith Warrior, Solei gained a very heavy preference for lightsaber combat. In conjunction with her superhuman strength, Solei became a master of Form V: both the Shien & Djem So styles of lightsaber combat. As her training progressed, her lightsaber blows were capable of overcoming most defenses with raw power and skill. Shien was often used by Solei to send the attack back to her opponent to end their threat quickly. It became one of her primary lightsaber combat forms, along with Form VII: Juyo / Vaapad.
Within months of becoming a Sith Lord, Solei also began practicing the Vaapad style with the guidance of Mace Windu's spirit. With her training in both Light Side and Dark Side powers, Solei was able to better understand the nature of Vaapad and become able to use it effectively against other Sith who have tried to kill her.
Solei was also a practitioner of Form III: Soresu, Form IV: Ataru, and Form VI: Niman (particularly with with dual-blade variant as well as learning to incorporate her Force abilities into her lightsaber sequences). She primarily used Ataru when she did not wear her cortosis Sith armor. Soresu came in handy when she was practicing to maximize her defense as to not rely solely on her armor. Solei often used Niman as an exercise in control when wielding dual-blades and combining her Force powers with her lightsaber sequences.
Aside from her prowess with a lightsaber, Solei was also well-versed in hand-to-hand combat. During her few weeks in a New Republic prison, Solei had learned Mandalorian martial arts and combat tactics from her future friend and bounty hunter, Zanna Ordo. Zanna went on to say that she was like "a Mandalorian with Force powers" when they sparred together. Coupled with her unbridled physical strength, Solei was able to use powerful Mandalorian strikes against her enemies, even when when unarmed.
Force Abilities[]
Both sides of the Force are significant. To quote Jedi Battlemaster Kyle Katarn, "Abilities aren't inherently good or evil... it's how they are used." I may use Dark Side abilities, but I believe that both sides are important and that they both facilitate each other in many ways. I also think... that to know both sides is one of the ways to achieve balance.
—Solei Levantis
Though being a lightsaber duelist first and foremost, Solei also has a varied assortment of Force powers. Both of them are from both the Dark Side and Light Side. This is primarily a result of her personal belief that both the Light Side and the Dark Side are important to Force-sensitives, Jedi or Sith and otherwise, as one cannot exist without the other.
Light Side Powers[]
While she is a Sith Lord, Solei has learned a few Light Side techniques that have helped her. However, it is noted that this may be because she has shown some forms of compassion to those close to her (excluding her mother) and she has learned to love again. She also believes that to know both sides is to learn how to balance oneself.
Ironically, through the many Sith training sessions and assassination attempts that Solei had endured, tutaminis was one of the Light Side abilities that she had learned to use. With this, she was able to absorb and redirect her Master's lightning blasts. She would also have already directed the use of tutaminis to redirecting blaster bolts, lightsaber blades, and other sources of energy. On one occasion, Solei would deflect a single sniper shot back at its sender without the use of her lightsaber.
One technique that Solei had learned at a young age was the Animal Friendship (a.k.a. Beast Trick) ability, being able to communicate and calm the minds of various beasts. She has used this ability many times, preferring to avoid confrontations with animals. It was also out of the fact that mercilessly slaying animals (aside from ones that are considered pests) disgusted her. On her homeworld of Tatooine, Solei managed to learn the Animal Friendship ability when she was confronted with a grizzled dewback. She had even extended this ability to the point where she could communicate with multiple creatures at once, especially creatures of the Dark Side, such as the Hssiss of Korriban.
Another of Solei's abilities of the Light Side is Force Heal. She has exhibited a gracious amount of skill with this power, healing both herself and her allies when the situation called for it. This feat surprised most people who were in Solei's company, as she was a Sith and they normally heal through negative emotions like anger and aggression. She was able to show great calm and repair the physical damage done to the person whom was hurt. It was in this act that had first opened her up to the Light Side of the Force. She was able to repair mostly tissue, but she has been shown to heal broken and fractured bones.
One other technique that Solei had learned before her training as a Sith was the Jedi mind trick. She was capable of using the mind trick almost easily on a particularly bold man who tried to talk to her, persuading him to drink juma juice until he was knocked unconscious. It was also this act that drew the attention of her Master, Darth Carnage.
Dark Side Powers[]
One of the first abilities Solei had learned was the Force Choke ability. This power first manifested itself through Solei's anger towards her mother. Through her Sith training, Solei was soon able to use this power with practiced ease, choking her opponents into either submission or death. It became one of her signature Force abilities.
Another power that Solei learned how to use was Force lightning. Through several instances where her Master used it on her, Solei eventually learned how to harness the power of Force lightning and also how to defend against it. Her favored variant of the Dark Side ability was the Chain Lightning variant, being able to arc several bolts of energy through multiple targets. Solei's particular lightning was colored a dark violet, which signified her standing on the Force, much like her lightsaber does.
Another ability that Solei often uses is the Force Scream technique. This was also the ability that Solei had inadvertently killed her mother and brother with during the Tusken Raider attack. There are times that even in her rage, Solei's screams would echo louder through the Force. Her scream was even powerful enough to tear through the durasteel plating of a New Republic personnel carrier and rupture its engines.
One other Dark Side ability within Solei's repertoire was the Darkshear ability. During a fight, Solei was able to manifest an invisible spear of Dark Side energy and hurled it at a fellow Sith whom tried to kill her. However, she has remarked that it's not an ability that she would use very often, as she could not remember how she did it.
Weapons & Equipment[]
Echani vibrosword[]
Before she became a Sith Warrior, Solei's primary weapon was an Echani vibrosword that she had bought with her own money at the age of fifteen. As the years went by, Solei continued to become familiar with the sword, fighting several of Tatooine's creatures, like womp rats and sand worms. There were even times where the young woman had to fight off groups of thugs while in Mos Eisley. She would even go on to use her Echani vibrosword to defeat a Krayt dragon. While a lot of the techniques she learned were self-taught, Solei would learn more styles as she became a Sith. After becoming a Sith Warrior and constructing her lightsaber, Solei hardly used her Echani vibrosword. However, she did continue to keep the weapon with her, should she lose her lightsaber.
"Dragonslayer" lightsaber[]
After acquiring the rare energized metal known as cortosis, Solei later created her own single-hilt violet-bladed lightsaber. Upon looking at the weapon, most people have commented on the design as being "created by a slayer of dragons". At first glance, Solei's lightsaber looked like a heavy imposing black power tool of a weapon, somewhat in the appearance akin to that of Darth Vader's lightsaber.
Most of the internal components were supplied to Solei by Darth Carnage, which came from another lightsaber which belonged to a long dead Jedi. The weapon itself was made primarily from cortosis and the scales and teeth of a krayt dragon.
As she wanted a weapon that could not be so easily destroyed, Solei had the outer layers of the hilt made with cortosis, giving it solid protection against lightsabers and blasters alike. The weapon also featured a two-handed grip for alternating between quick attacks and two-handed strength-based attacks. The lightsaber also featured a dual-phase function, extending the blade further should Solei need it. The switch itself was located on the lowerhalf of the two-handed grip. It also helped with her strength-based Djem So attacks, adding leverage as well as range and surprise.
In keeping in mind with her preferred offensive lightsaber style as well as the creature it was named after, Solei had also added the teeth and scales of the krayt dragon she had killed. Also, the focusing crystal was the violet Krayt dragon pearl she had acquired from the beast's corpse. Also in keeping with her creative mindset and honoring the creature she slayed, Solei had dubbed her lightsaber the name "Dragonslayer". She even went as far as to have the name branded into the hilt in Aurebesh letters.
Finally, Dragonslayer also featured a particular attribute that could be considered as a sort of "security system". Subsequently after a sparring session and killing a hungry hssiss, Solei had installed her lightsaber with a system that would ensure that no one that was strange to her was able to claim her weapon. Taking the teeth from the decapitated creature, Solei combined them to create a spring-loaded security measure for her ightsaber. Upon grabbing her weapon, the security system would recognize the assailant's hand as one of an unauthorized user. As soon as this was figured out by the security system, several small slits in the hilt of Dragonslayer would push out rows of hssiss teeth, puncturing the user and poisoning them with "dark side poison".
