The Distributor landed on Nal Hutta. Even as the crew was gathering in the cargo bay, Meridan started feeling uneasy. Streg was rubbing his hook, Deimus shifting from foot to foot, and even Meridan's father was gripping his blaster pistols tightly. Meridan grabbed his own pair of pistols, and watched as the ramp began to slide down. It revealed a muddy, broken landscape. Pools of acid, broken buildings, muddy rocks, and misshapen crates were everywhere. The entire crew held its breath for almost a minute, before they were certain nobody was there. “All hands, begin unloaded the goods,” Meridan's father called. Then he turned to Streg, “Turn the ship around. What stupid, foolish, kriffing–” but he never finished the sentence. There was the sound of a blaster firing and Meridan's father crumpled to the ground, blood streaming from his neck. | |

Development[]
The author, SavageOpress1138, originally came up with the idea for a short story detailing the early life of the smuggler Meridan around June 20, 2011. Originally titled only Smuggler, it was meant to detail the early life of Meridan, a character he had created as the adopted-father of his at the time featured article nomination Darth Ximus. He began typing it on his computer in his car while on a road trip vacation. He had written almost all of Part 1, when the document was lost during a computer crash. Devastated, seeing as he had spent hours writing, and had constantly saved the document, Savage was going to give up on Smuggler.
After a night's sleep, he decided he would try it again, and began to re-create the lost content. He had help from his family, who he'd shown it to before it crashed, and soon had Part 1 finished again. After a conversation with Atarumaster88 who also had a story with smuggler in the title, he changed the name to Smuggler: Meridan's Tale and created a page for it. He began posting the stories text on Star Wars Fanon on June 27 slowly continued until July 7.
He wrote Part 2 not long after Part 1, and began to upload it to Star Wars Fanon on July 7, continuing to upload until July 13. However, after finishing Part 2 he was stuck for two weeks before he could come up with a Part 3 that he liked. He finally did, and on July 13 uploaded all of Part 3 to Star Wars Fanon.
On July 15, he nominated it for the Summer short story contest after he received positive reviews from fellow user Sebolto. It did not win anything in the contest.
