Old Republic era

Slejux Nissatak was a male Melitto Jedi Knight during the New Sith Wars. Despite his lack of eyes, both the super-sensitive cilia on his body and his Force sight enabled him to become a skillful Knight and an expert in Soresu. He chose to specialize as a Jedi Consular.

Biography[]

Early Jedi Service[]

Slejux was chosen as Nulu Thini's Padawan. Thini was a close friend of Jedi Master Phnyong, and Slejux met Phnyong often too. When Phnyong was elevated to the Chancellorship in 1,392 BBY, Nulu took Phnyong's seat on the Jedi High Council, and Slejux grew to know Phnyong in his role as Supreme Chancellor too. Even after Slejux was knighted, Phnyong occasionally inquired after him.

In 1,388 BBY, Slejux was assigned to the praxeum ship Crescentia, serving alongside Tirien Kal-Di and his Padawan, Narasi Rican, with whom Slejux developed a friendship.

Milagro[]

Slejux joined Mali Darakhan's praxeum council-defying mission to Milagro in 1,387 BBY at Tirien's invitation; in addition to his belief that Jedi had an obligation to protect innocents, Republic citizens or not, he hoped he could protect Tirien and Narasi. He helped Tirien and Narasi run the Sith blockade by distracting pursuing pilots with the Force, though he was saddened and disappointed in himself when he accidentally mind-tricked two pilots right into a building. Slejux listened more than he spoke as the Jedi became integrated with the Milagro Resistance fighting Vedya Gasald's occupying force, though he sensed tension between Mali and his apprentice Aldayr Nikodon and repeatedly urged Mali to take steps to smooth the trouble.

When the Jedi assailed Milagro's government center to rescue the Milagroan hostages and kill Darths Vaszas and Vandak, Slejux, Tirien, and Narasi went to rescue the hostages, but Slejux continued alone after Tirien sensed Darth Alecto and went with Narasi to confront her. Slejux easily dispatched the guards, rescued the hostages, and escorted them out; he defeated a squad of Sith troopers and dispatched three Sith Acolytes in single combat before the Jedi were rescued by Nal and Kadelle Chun. Fleeing Milagro, Slejux kept a grievously wounded Kadych just stable enough that he survived long enough to get to a bacta tank on Corellia.

A Duty to a Friend[]

After Milagro, Slejux remained aboard the Crescentia, but when Supreme Chancellor Phnyong was assassinated and Tirien lost his Force powers, Slejux returned to Coruscant at Tirien's request. Tirien wished Narasi's apprenticeship to continue and trusted no one but Slejux enough to mentor her; under the circumstances, Slejux accepted the burden. He and Narasi participated in several raids on Sith Intelligence sites, but Slejux became concerned over Narasi's anger and self-castigation about Tirien's loss of the Force. He confided his feelings of inadequacy as a mentor to Mali, who was also trying (and failing) to help Tirien; Mali advised Slejux to focus on what was best for Narasi's development, and Slejux announced they would cease to participate in the raids, hoping to weaken what he viewed as Narasi's dangerous over-attachment to Tirien.

The move backfired, and Narasi and Aldayr stole the Second Chance to chase a rumor of Alecto to Skorrupon. The rumor was a Sith trap, and Slejux and Mali hurried in their wake, but too late to save their Padawans from capture. They tried to communicate with Tirien, but found his beacon was not on Coruscant. Trailing him through the galaxy, they finally arrived on Vjun, where they found the Palace of Happiness in time to rescue Tirien, Narasi, Aldayr, and a number of freed slaves. Slejux handled communications on the way out until they escaped to Coruscant.

In the wake of the debacle, Slejux returned Narasi to Tirien's tutelage with relief. Though humbled by Tirien's trust, he admitted he had decided to forego having a Padawan for the time being, as he found the responsibility for another Jedi's success (or failure and fall) daunting.

The Holocron Whisperer[]

The Crescentia's Praxeum Council sent Slejux on a mission to Mustafar, where after considerable effort Slejux retrieved the holocron of Jedi Master Kwhuel. Slejux communed with the holocron's gatekeeper and developed a rapport with it; in light of his above-average skills and his connection to Kwhuel, the Praxeum Council allowed Slejux to study the holocron. Feeling the magnitude of the project, Slejux consulted with Tirien whenever possible.

Slejux joined Tirien and Narasi for a mission to Carosi IV, where they prevented slavers from capturing the native Carosites but wound up unexpectedly encountered Jedi Battlemaster Argus Z'dar, who had deserted the Order to lead the remnants of Karr Shadeez's crusade. Slejux, like Tirien and Narasi, declined Z'dar's invitation to join the group.

When Tirien and Narasi set out to Circumtore to buy a nuclear bomb auctioned by Runganna the Hutt, Slejux and Tirien both sensed the vital importance of Kwhuel's holocron; Slejux remained aboard the Crescentia to dive deeper into the holocron's secrets.

Dying Well[]

Slejux, like all the Crescentia's other Jedi, prepared to take part in the Battle of Eriadu, a final victory over Darshkére. When the battle began, however, Vedya Gasald's fleet arrived, trapping the Seventy-Second between the two Sith forces and holding its ships with interdictor cruisers. Slejux initially intended to assist with evacuations, but foresaw his own death if he did so. Instead—perceiving that his death was inevitable, but its manner was not—he devoted his last moments to shielding Kwhuel's holocron with the Force to protect it against mundane harm. Though he was killed when the Crescentia exploded, he was vindicated when Narasi recovered the holocron days later.

Powers and Abilities[]

A Soresu stylist, Slejux was capable of standing up against withering blasterfire or fighting multiple Forceful attackers without suffering harm; he was the only Jedi on the Milagro mission to escape unscathed. He was sufficiently powerful to mind trick a squadron of fighters pursuing the Second Chance through atmosphere, though he ultimately had some assistance from Tirien Kal-Di. Though not a Force healer by training, his meditative training and raw power were sufficient for him to keep a man near death alive.

Appearance and Personality[]

Like all Melitto, Slejux had no facial features, but wore a rebreather and vocoder which gave some contours to his head; his vocoder gave his mechanical voice a slight buzzing tone, but was relatively good at giving it inflection to convey emotions. He had a green hide and chitin plates and stood 1.85 meters tall. When necessary he wielded a lightsaber with a green blade.

A Jedi Consular, Slejux was contemplative and meditative by nature. However, he also possessed a dry and witty sense of humor, and often used humor to put others at ease, particularly Narasi Rican. Naturally soft-"spoken" and mild-mannered, Slejux did not enjoy killing, though he would do so when absolutely necessary. He was willing to take on great obligations for his friends, such as when he briefly trained Narasi, but found having a Padawan too heavy a burden to accept it willingly. Slejux admitted to Argus Z'dar that he suffered from self-doubt; like Tirien, he was conscious of his above-average power and the expectations of the Jedi Council, and he privately doubted he would be equal to them. At his end, however, Slejux faced death without fear, and with the calm composure of a Jedi.
