The Skirmish on Fresia was a minor battle between the Savi Alliance and the Vacoren Alliance during the second year of the Cruentusian War.

Prelude[]

The Vacoren Alliance, an organization that had a sprung up falling the fall of the Infinite Empire, had up to this point in the war been discreetly supplying arms to various minor factions and mercenaries across the known galaxy. As a result, it had made considerable profit, and its later, Hask Dofine, had decided to further increase Vacoren power by locating remnants of Rataka technology. After a tip-off from bounty hunters on Fresia, Dofine decided to search said planet. Although the Alliance's military force was relatively small, Dofine still took along a large battalion, just to be safe.

Unbeknownst to him, the Savi Alliance was also present on Fresia, having been following the same rumors. Its leaders also had a vendetta against the Vacorens, having discovered that they had been supplying them with faulty arms at inflated prices. Upon learning of the Vacoren arrival on Fresia, the Savis decided to engage, determined to exact revenge and also potential gain large cash prizes by eliminating the VA. Taken by surprise, the inexperienced, poorly trained and poorly armed Vacoren troops were startled by the Savi blitzkrieg.

The battle[]

Initial moves[]

Holed up in a town, the Vacorens came under heavy fire from Savi mortars and snipers. Panicking, many Vacoren soldiers tried to hide in buildings, only to be eliminated when the Savis filled said buildings with poison gas grenades. Meanwhile, the Savis commandeered civilian trucks and rode through the streets, running over or gunning down Vacoren troops that they found as they drove by.

Calcutta, meanwhile, ordered any surviving troops to pull out of the town and consolidate in the field outside. The Savis, however, had anticipated this, and briefly broke off their attacks to re-position outside.

Culling the sheep[]

Positioning near a clear, Calcutta ordered the Vacoren soldiers to assume defensive positions. However, in the open, they presented an even bigger target. Using camouflage, the Savis got near and opened fire, scattering the Vacoren troops and driving them towards a nearby cliff. Calcutta himself was taken down by a sniper shot. With this final loss of command, the Vacorens lost any sense of order. Confused by the night darkness and by the encroached Savis, many were driven off the cliff to their deaths.

With nearly their entire force lost, the few survivors surrendered or committed suicide. The Savis had won.

Aftermath[]

With the loss of a significant portion of its military force and its two most vital leaders, the Vacoren Alliance descended into chaos, and lost its position as a significant body for the time being. Meanwhile, the Savi Alliance managed to gain some prestige, after its previous defeats, and also managed to gain some extra manpower from defecting Vacoren troops. At the same time, bodies such as Simiyar Tech and other arms dealers managed to exploit the arms supply vacuum created by the collapsing Vacoren Alliance.
