We shall defend Sinya to the death!
—Motto of the Sinya Defense Force

The Sinya Defense Force, also known as the SDF, was a planetary militia from the planet Sinya. It was formed after the Sinyan Civil War as the primary military for the newly established Sinyan Imperium. It was lead by former Sinyan Nationalist leader Ken Trallar until he was killed by the Srav Federation during the Cruentusian War. He was succeeded by Dak Chamblers, however, Chamblers proved an ineffective leader and was replaced by Joe Tylars. Tylars would lead the SDF until the Sinyan Imperium joined the United Coalition of Worlds, after which the SDF was reduced to a police force.

Organization[]

The SDF consisted of two main branches: The Army and the Navy, with each including several subgroups. The SDF Army was the main authority inside a planet's atmosphere, with an army officer being of higher importance then another officer of the same rank in a different organization. The SDF Navy was the only space-based military group in Sinyan service. The Navy was formed in order to protect the planet from another outside invasion shortly after the Sinyans had expelled the Srav Federation from their planet. At first it was only a loose force of armed freighters and transports but was able to obtain larger warships over time.

Personnel and vehicles[]

The SDF ground forces included a number of both advanced and primitive weapons. The primary tank in SDF service was the SAAV-4 light tank, a cheap, fast vehicle with decent firepower. The Clintun-class heavy tank, a former SSR design, also saw extensive service in the SDF. The largest land vehicle deployed by Imperium forces was the SAAV-6 heavy tank, noted for its powerful armament as well as its large size. The SAAV-6 was only used in small numbers however, due to cost issues. JAX-12 fighters, as well as captured Srav Yukel-class fighters made up the bulk of the SDF's land based air force. The standard weapon of SDF Army foot soldiers was the MR-11 assault rifle, a simple, rugged but inaccurate gun.

Naval forces[]

Capital ships[]

The backbone of SDF Naval forces was the Rescere-class assault freighter, a slow, poorly armored ship better suited as a transport. A later addition was the Velum-class battleship, a powerful warship that could battle any capital ship available at the time. The SDF Navy also employed a number of other small warships and converted freighters.

Fighters and transports[]

The primary fighter of the SDF Navy was the off-world purchased FireWing-class interceptor, although a fair number of Sinyan-built JAX-12s also served in its fighter corps. The main transport was the Klasnost-class transport, a Srav Federation design captured by Sinyan forces. A number of other craft also served as transports as well.

History[]

The Sinya Defense Force was formed from the Sinyan Nationalist Movement following the Sinyan Civil War with Ken Trallar as Supreme Commander. It was soon afterward declared the primary military of the also newly-formed Sinyan Imperium. However, it remained poorly outfitted as compared to other large factions. The largest issue was the SDF's lack of an air force, as the only Sinyan fighters were old machines in service of local militias.

A year after the end of the Civil War, the Srav Federation invaded Sinya after Emperor Yen Balestone refused to peacefully join the Sravs, officially forcing Sinya into the Cruentusian War. A sizable invasion force, led by Strigoi Khaz, landed on Sinya after experiencing little air resistance. The SDF was all but destroyed in the ensuing ground battle, with some Sinyan officers even retreating without a fight. Trallar and most of the SDF generals were killed when the Sravs bombed Reshlund and Dak Chamblers was left in command. In the end the SDF and other Imperium groups were forced to go underground. Chamblers later attempted a raid on the industrial city of Stahlon but failed disastrously.[1] Joe Tylars then took command and led the SDF in a successful attack on Eisenval. This victory boosted Sinyan moral and Tylars decided to launch another attack. This time it was an all-out assault on the Sravs which eventually resulted in the Sinyans regaining control of their planet.

With the Sravs gone, the SDF underwent a massive buildup and the Imperium began to expand its territory. The first planet to be conquered was Karccev, where warlord Aluv Stiluun put up a failed resistance to the SDF. Axra Prime and Mu Nae were later taken peacefully.

The Sinyan expansion was halted by the Taung Confederacy, who launched an invasion of Mu Nae. The SDF was unable to hold the planet and was eventually forced to withdraw. The Taung would later suffer heavy losses at the hands of the BSI on Axra Prime, however, many SDF soldiers were intentionally left behind when the planet was evacuated. The Taung then launched an attack on Karccev, which was without an official commander. Tylars dispatched reinforcements but many of them did not make it to the surface, but those that did were able to counter-attack the Taungs. A long-lasting stalemate ensued. After months of trench warfare, Tylars led a large SDF assault on the Taung forces in orbit and on the planet. In the end the Taungs withdrew to return to their homeworld of Dxun.

Although the Taungs had left, the SDF had been decimated. In hopes of providing better security for the Imperium, Emperor Balestone signed the Treaty of Corellia and joined the United Coalition of Worlds. The SDF was reduced to a mere police force and many of its officers left to join the UCW military.

Behind the scenes[]

The Sinya Defense Force was created when Fanon authors Ty294 and Unit 8311 decided to create a small conflict between the Srav Federation and a local militia during the Cruentusian War. The SDF eventually became a larger organization when Ty294 and Darth Storm decided to have the Sinyans clash with Storm's Taung Confederacy.

The SDF is based partially off the militaries of the Galactic Empire and WWII-era fascist empires.
