Sileria was a planet in the Unknown Regions and the homeworld of the avian Echeron. A member of the Golden Empire, it was the site of a Royal Navy Officer Training Institute.

Geography[]

Sileria's surface was a mix of arboreal jungles and forests; hilly plains; and rocky areas, such as gorges, canyons, and mountains. The majority of fauna lived in the lower areas, with comparatively smaller populations in the mountains and other high places. The Echeron were the planet's only indigenous sentients, but not its largest predators.

Rivers ran from mountains and through gorges out to Sileria's seas and oceans, and most landmasses were long archipelagos rather than enormous continents.

Sileria's gravity was slightly lighter than the standard of other worlds, which assisted the native Echeron in their brief bursts of flight.

Society and culture[]

Though much of Sileria's plains was fertile and arable, the Echeron still generally preferred to live in high areas, rather than on the surface. Consequently, aside from a few cities which butted up to mountains or plateaus, most settlements on plains were built by aliens who had immigrated to the planet. Since some areas of the planet had never been occupied or harvested, Sileria generated some income through tourism.

Because the Echeron were curious to the point of invasive, most dwellings on Sileria were sealed and featured translucent windows.

History[]

The Echeron who came to rule their native planet evolved as true avians, usually feeding on carcasses killed by other predators rather than killing themselves. The forests, jungles, and plains belonged to the large predators which hunted there, and the Echeron lived in mountains, crags, and canyons. As the Echeron developed tools and weapons, they slowly pushed predators back to claim some lowland areas, but their largest cities remained in high places.

When the Golden Empire arrived at Sileria, the Echeron initially fought to defend themselves, but were clearly outmatched and submitted with good grace. The planet was incorporated into the Empire and became a source of minerals. The Royal Navy, seeking to expand its training opportunities, built an Officer Training Institute on Sileria as well.
