Tirien Kal-Di kills a dark side adept with a shiak lunge through the heart
Shiak was one of the nine marks of contact in lightsaber combat and described a stabbing attack with the point of a lightsaber. It was generally accomplished with a single-handed lunge, although a two-handed jab or lunge was also called shiak. Shiak was the preferred mark of contact of Makashi stylists, and the preferred method of delivering a killing blow for Jedi Knights, as it left the body more intact than other killing blows.
Notable uses[]
Tirien Kal-Di, a Jedi Makashi stylist, frequently killed with shiak when killing was necessary. Among the enemies he dispatched this way were So So Hokan,[1] Taree Hyde,[1], Ondar Vargh,[2] C'niki Fereenil,[3] and (non-lethally) Xargo Dejuth.[4] Tirien and Darth Alecto performed an unusual dual shiak to kill Argus Z'dar.[3]
Darth Vandak killed Cienis Favand with a shiak strike through the head during the Duel on Gyndine. Bekli later killed Vandak similarly (stabbing vertically rather than Vandak's horizontally).[5]
Given the heavy use of Makashi by Tapani Jedi during the New Sith Wars, a number of combatants in the Battle on the Kiss of Death were killed with shiak, including Lezascan Wisté, Gaebrean Kaivalt, Kobold Baliss, and several White Guards.[6]
Aria Nikina executed an unusual shiak during her duel with Sacco Vyrak in 149 ABY, telekinetically levitating her lightsaber behind Vyrak's head and activating it with the Force, impaling him through the head.
During the Battle of the Sith Star, Eskol Kaartinen allowed Voara Culee to stab him in the shoulder to create an opening for him to stab her in the chest. He killed her with a second shiak strike to the heart.
Jedi Master Halambo killed Marcus Antessio in the Duel in the Crimson Corridor by stabbing Antessio through the throat.
Kyriel Windrunner defeated Evangelia Maxico during their duel by stabbing Maxico in the shoulder of her sword arm.
